Coastal Beach Vacation Location Ideas?

Hello ladies!

I have a 1, 3, and 5 year old. This summer I would really like to take our family to a beach, rent a condo/townhome and spend a week having fun in the waves, finding seashells, playing in the sand. My kids recently starting asking about the beach - they had never been - so for Easter we did a weekend in Galveston TX. It still has a lot of work needed since ravaged by hurricanes, and the water was cold - but my kids still LOVED it.

I am asking for ideas on where to rent. Looking for a great family beach location - soft sand, clear water, lots of seashells. I would prefer to avoid beaches overrun by the drinking/partying college crowd. We will be driving from Texas - but I am open to driving to Florida, Virginia, SC, etc. Just need ideas from other Moms.

Thanks in advance!

We love Sandestin FL. We go at least once a yr and stay at the Hilton Golf Resort and Spa.

A personal favorite is South Beach in Miami but it is NOT kid friendly. It is very adult.

We just returned from a trip to Virginia Beach. If you are looking to stay off the main beach I would contact Sandbridge Realty. (There may be others but this is the one that comes to mind.) They rent out homes on Sandbridge Beach which is just south of the main beach. It is more private and you don't have all the tourists to deal with. If you choose to stay on the main beach (which is what we did) there are tons of things to do. If you go during the off-season the hotel rooms are fairly inexpensive...we paid about $60 a night at the Days Inn Oceanfront. Also, there is a wonderful Aquarium in Va Beach too. The kids loved it. If you choose to go to Va Beach and want some more info feel free to contact me. Good luck!!

we love Kiawah SC!!

you can stay at the sanctuary or rent condos or houses from them or rent from private owners.

It is SUPER kid friendly and the beach is so calm and the sand is so flat you can roll a stroller on it but easy to dig also!!
no college kids here!

It also has amazing golf if you like that (my husband does, thats the main reason we go there)

also 30 min from charlston if you want to go there for a day.

Cant say enough about it!

In West Palm Beach Florida there is a place called Nettles Island - fabulous for families, they have their own beach, 2 heated pools (one right on the ocean), mini golf, tennis courts - the works!

Here is the website, but make sure you ask for the NETTLES ISLAND properties: http://www.nettlescoastalrealty.com/

:) I have been going for nearly 20 years!

My family loves to go to Destin or Sandestin, Florida. I couldn't tell you how many times we have been there. The water is beautiful and the beaches are so clean and white. We usually rent from Abbott Realty. Have a nice vacation wherever you go!

It's been a few years but we were able to find a good rental, and drove there, in Pensacola Beach, Florida. It has been a few years so you would have to do research. It was a smaller area and less crowded.

We LOVE LOVE Anna Maria Island, FL. It might be a little too far to drive with three little ones. My husband and I have been 7 or 8 times. We took our son last year for his first beach trip. He was 10 months old and had a great time! It's a sleepy little laid back Island. Not really much to do there except lay on the beach, look for sharks teeth and seashells, and enjoy your family time. Which is exactly why we go!!
