I conceived my daughter with clomid as I wasn't getting my periods regularly either. I conceived her on the second cycle of clomid. I just tracked my ovulation with a thermometer and a calendar. Good luck!

I had regular periods but I had a miscarriage and found that I have low progesterone so the dr perscribed Chlomid. I had my first daughter with it who is now 2. Then got pregnant without chlomid and had a second miscarriage. I'm now 17 weeks pregnant again on chlomid so I'm a believer!
I got the ovulation test kits - they were definitely helpful in knowing when to have sex while on the chlomid because even though you are on it, you still may ovulate at different times than the traditional "mid-cycle". I also got the book "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" by Toni Weschler. It's pretty graphic but if you are ok with your body, it is very helpful in identifying the signs of ovulation without the test kits.

I got prenant on Clomid, 2 times! It took 2 and 3 doses respectively. There is a risk of multiples, but I think it is pretty low. However, the first time I used it, we were planning on two children and figured if we got them both at once - that was okay!ak

Costco has the cheapest price on the O-tests - might be Clear Blue or OPT? I would do them for a month or two just for sanity. And make SURE you do the baby dance every other day days 10-20. I found out that I ovulated around day 18, not 14, so the first month I had stopped by then. And Heaven knows, everything can be working and it is still a matter of timing!

It sounds like you have some serious fertility problems. Your doctor should be trying to find the cause of your infertility. Anyone on Clomid should be monitored as you don't want to have high multiples. I really recommend finding a fertility doctor. My OB/GYN suggested we see a fertility doctor after trying to get pregnant for 18 months. We were eager to start the process of assissted reproduction, but had to go through testing. It really was in our best interest. My doctor was able to get the best picture possbile of my and my husband's fertility health. We conceived on our second cycle of IUI, which uses Clomid. I was monitored every other day via bloodwork and ultrasound to make sure that the eggs were growing and maturing as they should, to make sure that we did not end up with high multiples, and to make sure that the Clomid was not causing cysts on my ovaries. They also knew exactly when I would ovulate. I know it is hard to be patient when all you want to do is hold a baby in your arms. We now have a beautiful 22 month old boy. We are currently trying for number 2 and having difficulty. I have high prolactin which can mess with the timing of ovulation and cause eggs to be too old at ovulation. We have had two miscarriages because of this. You should definately wait to find out what your prolactin is. This can be controlled by medication. We will begin IUI again with our next cycle. Knowing your fertility health will give you your best chance of having a healthy baby. Good Luck.

I agree that your doc should monitor your cycle, though I do know that those ovulation predictor kits work really well.

I don't have any advice to share, but if it helps to inspire you... At almost 42, I had my son (now 3) via IVF. I was one of astonishingly rare and fortunate women who got pregnant during the first cycle of IVF...and what makes it even more astonishing is that, in spite of the 31 shots that I gave myself, my body only produced ONE egg. The doctor was NOT hopeful to say the least, but I insisted we go through with the procedure anyway. The rest is history!

i would buy te tests. no point in guessing. i just went online and got the kind that comes in packs of 20 and 50 because i figured i'd need them and they are cheaper that way. because if you miss one month you have to wait a whole 28 more days.

I had my son with Clomid. I only went through one pack. I agree with the other posts that your doctor should be monitoring your ovulation process. For me, they tracked the ovulation process and told me exactly when to try.

First of all CONGRATULATIONS on adding to your family. I can understand your excitement. I actually tried for 2 years to conceive. My husband and I went through all of the tests and so forth. I was receommended to another GYN by a friend. At the very first appt he suggested we do the same as you. I was pregnant on the very first try. I didn't think it could happen, especially after 2 years of disappointing negative pregnancy test. I didn't use ovulation test, and I did have to take about 6 pregnancy tests to confirm I was pregnant. The first were very border line so we couldn't tell for sure and the last 2 I just need to be sure. My daughter is almost 7 months old and if need be I will take the same course of action if we have problems conceiving a second child.

I conceived on the first try with clomid August, 1973!!! I had irregular periods and a pelvic kidney plus a defective fallopian tube. Back then there were no tests like they have now. Doctor checked me out because I was having trouble conceiving during a gall bladder surgery.
We adopted a wonderful boy and had our papers in for another baby. We knew it may be a long wait for a second baby. We were part of a group of waiting couples that met each week and one meeting there was a doctor that told us about clomid. That week I insisted my doctor perscribe it for me. He was reluctant because of the pelvic kidney and the chance of multiple babies. I delivered a healthy baby boy with no complications from the kidney or anything else. Three years later I took the clomid again and conceived a baby girl. Thus my family of two boys and a girl.
You may wonder why I am interested in Mamasource. Well, I have had my grandson since he was an infant. I need some help sometimes with this 4.5 year old and it is nice to read what some of the other moms have to say about their kids. So thanks a lot Mamasource!!
Wouldn't it be nice for some people if the only way to become pregnant was with a perscription from a doctor?

I was coincidentally on the phone with my best friend when I read your post. She has a six week old baby boy she conceived through the use of Clomid!
She is adamant about the fact that you should not need at home ovulation kits, your doctor should be monitoring your cycle for you. Otherwise you could either be wasting cycles or end up with Jon and Kate +8.

***Also, Clomid can cause false postitive on your ovulation predictor kit.***

It definitely sounds like PCOS to me but I'm not a doctor. I do have PCOS though! High testosterone, not regular periods sounds familiar. A couple of other symptoms are alot of belly fat or overweight (but not always!) hirsutism (hair growing in weird places), loss of hair on your head. All symptoms of PCOS. Like I said, I have it and my doctor put me on Metformin for a while like a previous poster to regulate my hormones, then we did clomid for ovulation and I ended up on prometrium as well because I was conceiving but needed the prometrium to stay pregnant! So, end result? 3 years later I have a gorgeous 2 year old and a happy beautiful 10 month old boy!! Get a good endocrinologist that specializes in fertility and you'll do fine. I am incredibly thankful that I found my endo Dr.. He helped us form our family! Don't give up, TTC is a tough road sometimes you'll get there. Good luck!!

I don't know anything about Clomid but would recommend that you read, if you haven't already, Taking Charge of Your Fertility but Toni Weschler, its a GREAT book and every woman should read it just to really understand how our bodies REALLY work. There is a lot of misinformation out there, even among docs. I used her methods of knowing what is happening with my body and got pregnant twice on the first try each time.

A friend had the same issue as you, and tried clomid. It didn't work, but as soon as she and her hubby stopped using the drugs they ended up pregnant. Clomid didn't work for me. Do some research on the drug before you take it, and research on infertility and other options. I hope this helps.

I used the ovulation kit, but became frustrated with it. It was better when my doctor monitored my cycle.

ask your dr about Lupron. it is usually used to help with endomitrosis, basically it stops you having a cycle and stops you ovulating. how ever when you come off of Lupron for most women they become 2-5 times more fertile. That is what happened to me. I became pregnant after having two cycles of Lupron.

well it is just another option. It will take a little longer to get pregnant. but it is another option.

side effects you are sent into temporary menapause. i suffered hot flashes and a few restless nites but talk with your doc and see if it might work for you.

i took clomid and had my baby in April. I also charted my temperature to track the fertile times, which basically coincided with the days my doctor said it would -- 5 - 10 days after taking the last pill. i got pregnant on the 3rd round. we had to up the dosage after i didn't get my period after the 2nd round at 50 mg. good luck!

You'll need ovulation tests, but I would ask your DR if they have a preference. I know that this can be a scary and exciting time. I'd tell you not to get too excited because it can take a while even with clomid, but you will get emotional anyway - I know I've been there.

One minor side effect that may or may not affect you is constipation. I wish I had thought about it seriously the first time I did clomid. I just didn't think about it or pay much attention until it got really really uncomfortable. In the end I was so uncomfortable, I didn't even really want to have sex(neccessary for the whole process to work). Taking something gentle or eating lots and lots of fiber would have made the whole experience better.

I had the same problem. They ended up diagnosing me with PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome). If you're not having a period you're probably not ovulating either, just my opinion. Have you been taking your temp every morning to see if it goes up?

To treat the PCOS, my Dr. put me on metformin first, for what seemed like a life time and then he added on clomid. It took about 5 cycles of clomid before we conceived, but it worked! Our little boy is just turned 14 months. :-) So wishing you the best while you TTC!

I had a friend who had your exact issues...just no regular periods and not ovulating. She took the clomid for less than 6 mos. , took her temp, did the every other day sex (hubby happy w/ that one;) and has had 2 babies since! So hang in there...just relax and believe it is working. Half the battle w/ concieving is timing and being relaxed. A stressed state causes reactions in your body that can actually hinder conception. So tell yourself it's only a matter of time and be confident....it will work!

I have not taken clomid but I have had fertility issues. I suggest you move onto a fertility doctor. They will monitor everything & I mean everything. They will run lots of tests you will be poked & probed some much that you will feel like your doctor/nurse knows you better than your husband does. I had to give my self shots of fertility drugs. I was at the doctor's office 3-5 times a week sometimes more. They would do blood work & an internal ultrasound. I wound up not being able to conceive naturally so we went the IVF route & now I have a beautiful little girl who will be 3 next month. If you go the IVF route yes you have a greater risk of multiple however your doctor will not put anymore back in than he feels is safe & if he does it is only after talking to you about how you feel about selective reduction. Or at least that is what my doctor did. I was against selective reduction so my doctor only put 3 in at a time the first time it did not work but we tried it again & 1 took. Good luck & I really think you need to see a doctor that specializes in Fertility.
