Trying to Get Pregnant for #2 for over a Year

I have never made a request, but thought I would give this a try. My husband and I have been trying to get pregnant with a 2nd Child and it has been 13 months now. It took us 8 months to get pregnant with our daughter (27 months), so we were expecting it to take a while. I certainly did not think it would be this long. We actually got pregnant at 8 months this time and I miscarried very early on. The doctor is going to be starting me on Clomid this next cycle and I am very nervous about the side effects. Has anyone ever had any good or bad experiences with Clomid. My doctor says the only side effects are really cysts. I worry about the chance of multiples and other scary things I read on the internet. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

What can I do next?

Hi R., I have never used Clomid or really have any advice on that matter. I do however want to wish you a lot of fertility luck! I know how hard it is to want to conceive after a miscarriage. My thoughts and prayers are with you. K.

Hi Rachel,
I am a Medical Herbalist and I specialize in a form of massage called Maya Abdominal and Uterine massage. The massage technique helps to align the uterus in the pelvic bowl so that your ovaries and uterus are getting the proper amount of blood and hormonal flow. The herbs help to balance your hormone levels and support a healthy endometrial lining, ensure healthy ovulation and stabilize the luteal phase of your cycle.
I have successfully been helping women achieve pregnancy naturally for 9 years. I work closely with women who decide to use enhanced fertility treatments (i.e. Clomid, IUI, IVF) and have found that the support is incredibly beneficial. If you choose not to take Clomid I can help your body become more fertile with the support of nurturing herbs and balancing massage.
There is documentation of Clomid causing ovarian cancer in women who used it for more than 5 rounds. Basically, Clomid is an ovarian stimulant. It causes the ovaries to double and sometimes triple in size, can cause abdominal pain and many women feel emotionally unstable on the drug. Yes, the incidence of multiple eggs is a factor here ( twins, triplet, quad....).
If you are curious please don't hesitate to call. I would love to talk with you in person ###-###-####. Blessings, L. Golub

The first time I was on Clomid, I had hot flashes - just like menopause I imagine. I'd be sitting at my desk and break out into a hot sweat. It did help me to get pregnant that go around, though and with only one baby. The second time I went on Clomid, I don't recall any side effects. I do recall that it didn't force me to ovulate that time around and the doctor was concerned about the dosages, so I had to move on to other fertility methods. I do know someone from my twin's club that conceived her twins while on Clomid, but twin's aren't so bad, plus, most of us had our twin's either naturally or through IVF, so although your odds of having multiples increases with Clomid, the odds are lower than through other more costly means that you may need to address, if the Clomid doesn't work. Have you been charting your cycles? Have you tried the ovulation predictor kits. Has your doctor confirmed that you are the problem? If you aren't ovulating regularly and the clomid forces you to ovulate and get pregnant, then consider it a blessing even if you have hot flashes and end up with twins. Good luck......A.

Hi,

WOW! We sound so much alike...I am a SAHM and have a 2/12 yr old Daughter. My husband and I just got PG after 20 mos of trying. Unfortunately, I just had a miscarriage (7wks), which was CF'd today at my doctors. I do have two freinds who were on Chlomid and have healthy baby boys 1yr and 8 1/2mos (did not have multiples). I am thinking of going on Clomid myself; but will try the natural way (1) more time....I think you should try it; my girlfreinds were successful!
BEST OF LUCK TO YOU AND YOUR HUSBAND=).

Hi R. -

I took Clomid to conceive my first child (worked the first time), and I only experienced headaches as a side effect. I would imagine the side effects vary from person to person.

I know the possibility of multiples is higher when using clomid, but I don't think it is substantially higher. I have a friend who conceived both of her kids using Clomid, and only had singletons.

Hang in there - I know how very frustrating not being able to get pregnant can be. There are two great fertility clinics in town (assuming you're in Denver), should you need to go that route. I would recommend Conceptions. GOOD LUCK!
