Cleaning Advice

So, how does one clean a computer monitor screen? This was not touched and made dirty by a child, but looks like it may as well have been.
Thanks!

What can I do next?

You can use window cleaner but don't spray it onto the screen, spray onto a SOFT cloth (not paper towel) and then wipe the screen. The best stuff I have found though is the glass cleaner from the Walmart Vision Center - it is for no glare glasses and works great for the monitor - same thing though - don't spray directly onto the screen.

I should have specified to use window cleaner without amonia as that is what will ruin the screen (I worked in the IT Dept for a school district for 3years). That is why the cleaner from walmart vision is best but my regular window cleaner is also amonia free (can't breathe around that smell).

It really ends up being a matter of opinion. For example, one doctor may say that one glass of wine occassionaly while pregnant will do no harm while another will tell you to NEVER do it. :-) Take all the advice you get and decide what feels right to you. Have a great day!

DO NOT USE WINDOW CLEANER like the other gal suggested. Not to put a damper on her suggestion, and I hope she reads my answer to help her as well, but if you do take her suggestion; You will take off the protective film from your screen and the ammonia will cause a clouding affect. What you should use is: Mixture of "half distilled water", and "half alcohol", and use a 100% cotton cloth. My husband's hobby is computers, and he's also a computer software developer. He strongly suggests that you do not use window cleaner. You will ruin your monitor. Please use the suggested ingredients above that I mentioned. :-)

I would use one of those nice plush dust rags that are super absorbant, y'know the fluffy cloth ones you can get at Bed bath and Beyond.

We bought the cheapy screen cleaning wipes. They work great and are made for the screens. I have several touch screens in my vehicle and they work great for those too! Sometimes you actually need something wet that can get smudges off, not just lint or dust.

I was told that you can use a cotton ball with a little alcohol on it and wipe lightly. I tried it and it worked pretty well.

As a former computer geek, we used to keep a bottle of rubbing alcohol and cotton balls in our drawer. Depending on what your screen is made of (I don't know about the newer ones since I retired). I have four little ones and an old flat screen Philips monitor, that's what I use.

I just use a slightly damp microfiber cloth. I love those.

You could try the wipes for eyeglasses. They also work well for camera lens smudges and computer screens. I use the ones from Costco.
