Christening Dress

Hello -

I'm looking for a dress my daughter will wear to her baptism in a few weeks. She will be 3 months old at the time. I don't want to spend too much money (no more than $100 if possible) - I've looked on the internet and there are some expensive dresses out there! Does anybody know of any children's clothing stores in Chicago (preferably on the North Side) that would sell christening dresses? Or in the near suburbs?

Thank you!!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for all of your advice! I went to Bebe Elegante (next to the Whole Foods on Ashland) and they had some adorable stuff. Only one long dress in 3-6 month, though. I ended up ordering from www.onesmallchild.com, and was very pleased with the experience. The website is very easy to navigate and they have lots of pictures so you can be reasonably sure what you are buying is what you want!

Try e-bay if you have enough time. I just bought my daughters flower girl's dresses off e-bay and I paid only $25.00 dollars a dress. I know they also have a ton of baptism gowns.

Try JCPenney, my son was just baptized and I got his adorable little "suit" from there. Also, the spring clothes are already out, so you might find a white dress just shopping around at the mall.

We baptized our daughter at 3 months as well and fell into the same dilemma. I decided against the frilly, lacy dress and went for a knit ensemble that she could wear again. It was only $36. It was a white knit dress that came down over her knees, long-sleeves, and had tiny embroidered roses around the collar. It had a matching sweater. We paired it up with tights and a headband, and voila! Go to onesmallchild.com and the outfit is called Paige. There are alos a lot of affordable traditional gowns!

Hi,
You can go to any Sears store to the children's department.
They have a small selection but prices range from $40-60.

Go to Mud Pies on Central St. in Evanston. They are moving locations soon and have lots of sales. I just got my daughter who is three months a baptismal gown for 25% off. It was under $50. They had a range of over $100 to undr $50 ones. You just need to ask the clerk to get them from the basement. Good luck.

A few ideas:
1. Ebay is great for this
2. There's a store (can't remember the name) in The Glen in Glenview that has stuff like this. Very nice high quality clothes. They're pricy, but under $100 definitely.
3. Also try Beautiful Beginnings next to Trader Joes in Lincoln Park (on Clybourn)
4. We thought about getting something formal for our son when he was baptized. Instead we ended up getting him a cute nicer outfit that he could wear again from The Childrens Place. I just couldn't see spending a lot of money on something that was only worn once. And who's to say that kid #2 is going to be the same sex as kid #1 to reuse it?

Try www.onesmallchild.com. They have some gowns in the $40 and $50 range and a sale page too. Also, my son's godmother got one for him in September at Marshall Field's and it was around $40. I don't know if Macy's still carries them...

I know that Babies R Us in Niles has quite a few christening dresses. I don't know how pricey they were but they were very nice.

Have you checked out the little boutique shops. I know there are some mexican shops that are really great & less expensive. Have you ever heard of MegaMall? I think it is on Milwaukee. Check out Sears & JCPEnney. as well

I got a hand-knit christening gown from Ebay, both of my BOYS wore it. Also, Harlem & Irving Plaza and Golf Mill both have these specialty shops that carry fancy clothes for kids. The one in Golf Mill is called the Wave. For sure I've seen outfits way under $100. I think there's a specialty store in Lincolnwood Town Center as well. Good luck!

Hi V..
I have a Christening dress I bought over the internet 2 yrs. ago. It a hand crocheted dress.. really cute. We didn't use it because my mother in law sent us my husbands "dress" for our daughter's baptism... so I've just been sitting on it thinking I will start putting all of these baby items on Ebay.. but to no avail yet! If you're interested I can send you a picture. I'll have to check to see what I paid for it but it wasn't $100+. You can email me at ____@____.com
if your interested.
