Hello Moms,
I am just wondering how much you pay for childcare. I am currently freaking out about how much money we are going to have to come up with for childcare this year. Previously I only had one child with someone three days a week and the other two days a family member watched her free of charge. This is what I have been used to for the last three years. I now have two children and will be paying for 5 days a week of childcare. I am just curious what others are paying and what type of childcare it is (daycare facility, in-home daycare, at your house) I have found someone and think she is kind of on the high side, but I am not sure. Thanks for your help!

What can I do next?

Hi,

I use an in-home daycare for my son, and she charges $7 an hour for him. He's only there 3 mornings a week - I think she might charge slightly more for full-time. I hope that helps. If you'd like more info on her, send me a PM.

Thanks,
M.

I have one 11 month old chid and we pay our nanny $10 per hour. She takes my daughter to activities, does laundy, light house cleaning, runs errands, cooks simple meals. When I interviewed candidates the going rate seemed to be $10 - $12 per hour for one child. Most expect you to add $1 per hour with each additional child. If you offer a cash situation you may be able to get a better deal.

I have 2 girls (6 and 3). They are in a daycare/preschool facility 5 days a week, all day. We pay $2000 a month. This facility busses my 6 year old to and from school.

I've been researching these lately for full time care for one child - KinderCare $1,200/month for infant (slightly less for older); Bright Horizons - $1,375 for an infant (slightly less for older); in home - varies $700-$900.

I'm in your area and found $10-$14 hr. for someone to come into your home. The rate for in-home day care varies as the other woman suggested. I also looked into an aupair. $325 wk/45 hours of care. They can also cook, do kids laundry, clean up after children. Bascially anything related to the childrent they are watching. But they have to live with you. I've had friends that had a lot of success w/this route. Good luck

I am a home day care provider if you would want to run it past me to see if it sounds typical, what she's charging for what she is offering. An in-home child care is less expensive than a center. And generally full time is less expensive per day than part time. Some offer a sibling discount. Home day cares vary a LOT in what they offer. Generally a bit higher than not if they are licensed, are dedicated to working with your child, offer supplies for the children, that kind of thing. More often than not, you get what you pay for with it. Some home day care providers do it because they love it and for some it's not the greatest fit of a job, so look around and find a place you are comfortable with. keep in mind the cost of a center when thinking about how high the price is for home child care. Usually it's still SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper than a center. Best wishes in finding a good fit for your family!! :)
