Anybody's child been treated for molluscum? What kind of treatment did your child have and how long did it take to go away?

I noticed on my son's torso back last fall (early fall) some bumps which I thought were but bites (it was still warm enough for bugs here), so we did not treat them as they did not bother my son. But as time went on I noticed that they were not going away like bug bites do, but rather they were getting bigger, and spreading. He has been to the doctor twice for this. The first time, the doctor prescribed a cream, which did not really do any good. The second time, we saw a PA and she suggested to not do anything for a while, just wait and see what happens. Well, now where it is worst under my son's arm, it is looking very much like a rash, and he is scratching it all the time. The seam in is shirt was iritating it, so we make him turn his undershirt inside out then put a regualr shirt over it. With summer around the corner, I can only imagine what we might have to do.
Has anyone else gone through this...I'm willing to listen to all suggestions...my son is starting to get very self concious about this.

So What Happened?

Well, it seems that Blister Beetle Juice has been mentioned a few times, and I've read some reviews on line about how well it works. I will be contacting my ped to have a ped dermotologist suggested. I would wait for them to go away, but my son is starting to become self concious (sp) about it, and my husband would feel good about not trying all we can to make him feel better about it. Thanks to all for your advice :)
We had him treated yesterday(4/25) with the Beetle Juice, our Ped will do it in her office - by this morning, we could already see a great improvement - just crossing our fingers over the next few weeks!

Both of my boys have had molluscum and we've tried several different things. What finally worked for us was getting Elderberry Juice Concentrate from a local health food store and putting a tsp. once a day in juice or milk. It boosts the immune system and helps them fight off the molluscum quicker.

Blister beetle juice at the dermo's office and it was done- relatively no pain and no follow up. My son even had one on his face.. Good Luck!

We chose not to go through the "treatment" as it makes it worse before it gets better.

It's a virus. It takes anywhere from 6 months - yes MONTHS to 2 years to get out of the system.

My son's did not itch that much, it was behind his leg - if it looks "plaque" take him back....he may have Psoriasis instead of Molluscom....we used the HUGE bandaids on his to keep people from freaking out over it. Ours did NOT spread - at least not like your son's. Ours looked like little white pox or pimples and were localized to the back of his legs. I would take him to a dermatologist to see what else they can do for him.

I had this myself many years ago. I had them scrape it off and I didn't feel a thing. I am an adult so that may be a difference, but I didn't feel any discomfort either - nothing. It stopped itching right away and then went away.

I know two families who had to deal with it. The 2-year-old had it on her face and neck so the parents have brought her to a hospital twice to have those ones either frozen or burned off. The other kids have had the virus in less conspicuous places so they just waited it out...it takes at least a year if not longer. I would focus your efforts on making sure your child doesn't transmit it to someone else - read up on sharing towels, using public pools, etc. In the two families I know, it probably started with an older child who picked it up at the pool at the Y (her infection was in a spot high up at the back of her leg, exactly where she would rest her leg in the edge of the pool after swimming) and then spread through a kiddie pool in the back yard to her cousins and a friend.

My son had these for about a year. Through advice I received on Mamapedia I took him to a pediatric dermatologist who used "blister beetle juice" on a few of the bumps. This was painless and within a few weeks all of the bumps were gone! We were so thankful! Our pediatrician had recommended having them frozen off but I did not want to go that route at all!

My daughter had it for about 8 months. We did nothing, as our ped suggested as freezing them off or scraping would be very painful for her. Luckily they were on her shoulder and chest area with an occasional one on her chin, so we hit them well with clothes and she didn't notice them. We just waited it out, and one day, they really do just disappear.

No baths with siblings! The warm water will work as a tool to just give it to the other child(ren). And wash his bedding often.

Going through it now. My two year has had it for a couple months, we just started Zymaderm but haven't seen much progress with it, but it has only been a couple of weeks and it's supposed to be a 30 day thing. We took her to a dermatologist, and she basically said to let it go, and yes it takes MONTHS for it to go away. We had a Ped. tell my husband that there was a product like St Johns wart remover that worked well, but he (my husband) didn't remember what it was called (grrr) and I haven't been able to find it either. There is also a cream you can buy at a holistic store called Thujila that is supposed to be god for it as well. I figured we would try the Zymaderm, if that doesn't work then we will go down the list. Best of luck to you, I understand how hard it is. :(

My 8 year old had the beetle juice treatment yesterday on her neck. It looks weepy now, but I am hopeful it will improve. Before that we tried tea tree oil.
