Sex worked for us! exactly 5 minutes after 'finishing' my water broke. One word of caution!!! Have sex in the morning! We did just after midnight then I labored for 26 hours then was up because I was excited about having our first baby! 3 days in all with NO sleep. My husband always said it prepared us for the sleepless nights ahead though.

eat jalapeno peppers. honestly, I ate them for the first time when i was pregnant, and 7 hours later my water broke. My son came 4 weeks early too, so it's not like I was planning on it! Also, sex.

Hope this helps.

Yes, it's true - have sex. The prostoglandins in the semen can work wonders. And walking is great advice too - let gravity try to do it's thing. Don't take any castor oil; it'll just possibly give you diarrhea and do you want that while on the table delivering anyway?

S.,
Iknow this is gonna sound really crazy, but the girls in my family have been using it for years....black liccorish (spelling is off, but you know what I mean). It took them a week of talking me into - Ican't stand the stuff, but I was 10 days over and gave in after 4 false alarms and being sent home from the hospital - after half a bag my contractions started and water broke 4 hours later. And my cousin just gave birth to her son yesterday after eating it the night before. good luck and congrats!

Hi S.,

You're a pro at this with 2 other babies! You're not "late" until you've passed 42 weeks. Average gestation is 40 weeks. Babies are "on time" anywhere between 38-42 weeks. There are a few things you can do, though none are guaranteed. Exercise, with low impact, such as walking, intercourse (challenging), nipple stimulation. You may also wish to have your Dr. or Midwife examine you. Your baby should be head down, and any degree of uterus readiness will be apparent to them. I made it thru 41.5 weeks and 4 months hyperemesis. You can too!
Good Luck, S.

Have your OB scrape your membranes. It causes some cramping but it gets the ball rolling. I had to have it done with both of my boys. By that night I was in labor.

Have sex. Walk a lot. If you are to over due the doctor should talk with you about being induced.

My last baby (my fourth) was two and a half weeks late. He weighed 10# 3oz. and was my easiest birth ever. (I thought the others were easy too, but not THIS easy!). I was anxious after my due date came and went but my midwife assured me the baby will come when ITS ready, not when I'M ready. Forty two weeks is not uncommon at all. Doctors like to induce at 40 weeks, but obviously the baby isn't ready yet. Trust nature and your body. God knows when your baby will come, trust Him. Enjoy the last bit of your pregnancy and let your body do what its made to do. I waited and when my baby came, my ENTIRE labor (1st contraction to delivery) was 1 1/2 hours! Just be patient and maybe you'll be lucky like I was!!

Walk. Walk a lot and on uneven ground if possible (on the grass instead of the sidewalk). Having sex helps as stimulation will help your uterus contract and that can move things along. If you don't want to/can't have sex nipple stimulation works in a similar manner. I really wouldn't try any extreme methods as it can be harmful to you and your baby.

I understand your frustration, but really it will happen. Eventually that baby will want out of you. Your other two didn't stay forever either did they?
