When I was like 36 or 37 weeks my dr had to do a stress test (b/c I lived so far from the hospital) to see if the baby to handle the trip if I were to go into labor at home. Anyway she made me stimulate my nipples and I started having contractions(hard contractions) and as I was getting ready to leave she told my husband and I NO SEX or we will see you sooner........SO HAVE LOTS OF SEX........!!!!!!!!!!!!

A.,
Here are the ones I have heard about:
Castor Oil - Not successful, stomach cramps and bowel movements, but no labor.
Sex - especially nipple stimulation - seems to be the most reliable. Orgasim is necessary for optimal benefits.
Nursing an older child - nipple stimulation and the hormones produced by it does cause contractions of the uterus.
Relaxation - finding peace and being centered where you are can cause labor to begin. (I like to call this Murphy's law - when you are NOT ready - it will happen)
Hang in there girl. There are 2 things for sure:
The baby will come when he/she is ready.
More difficulties are caused by induction than by patient waiting.

Be patient and wait for God's timing, cause it is perfect and always on time. Keep yourself busy and walk, walk and walk some more. That is really the best thing.
Good luck!
I tried all kinds of silly things and they didn't work.

my ob/gyn advised me (sort of jokingly but sort of seriously) to eat a very spicy meal and to drive to and from the restaurant on a bumpy road! I had a meal at an indian restaurant that I swear almost induced labor! i personally think the baby will come when it's ready, no matter what you do. I was lucky enough to have both girls come a bit early (5 days and 20 days, respectively), and I had friends who did everything they could think of, and still didn't deliver until 41 weeks.

Oh hunny...let me just tell you!! I was 2 weeks late and miserable. I tried everything that anyone and everyone told me to. I walked and walked and walked, cleaned until there was nothing else to clean. I got on my hands and knees and scrubbed the floor and even drank that nasty stuff everyone told me would for sure make me pop. AND still nothing. The one day that I did nothing and excepted the fact she would come when she was ready she came. And she was ready. I only had 7 minutes of hard labor..and best of all no meds. So, I'd say relax and you'll pop. Best of Luck!!

There are tons! Lets see....you can google any of these to get more info. You should be drinking red raspberry leaf tea about 3x a day, that will help tone the uterus. Walking is great, nipple stimulation, sex, the old castor oil method which I tried out of desperation and it only gave me diarreah. Black and blue cohosh tinctures, acupuncture is supposed to work well, spicy food. For me, it was get labor going or be induced at the hospital, which I did not want. The thing that finally put me over the line and into labor was, gulp, an enema. It was not pleasant, but when I got to the hospital I was 4 centimeters and did not have to have the invasive induction I was fearing. Also, you can have your doctor or midwife "strip your membranes" they basically swipe their finger between the wall of the uterus and the sac and labor generally starts within 24 hours. Oh, and some say to eat eggplant parmesean, didn't work for me but it's yummy :)
Good luck to you!

I agree with Sherri, be patient. I was very impatient with all 3.
Your time will come. I know it is miserable, I bled for two weeks and had very strong contractions for weeks before mine. It will be over soon and a new chapter will start. Try to enjoy yoour last few days because your whole life will change shortly. I do not mean in a bad way it is just different and willl never be the way it is now. Good luck!

I was told that there are no home remedies for inducing labor. Lots of people want to say things like having sex and all that will help but the truth is, the baby is going to come when it wants or if the doctor induces, there is nothing to do but just wait. Believe me, I wish there was something, I was so big with my last one, I was in pain but nothing would make him come.

But walking is good too... Also I have heard of an herbal tea, but not sure of the name. May try looking it up online or going to a heath food store.

nipple stimulation. That's what worked for me. I was 35 weeks 6 days pregnant with twins. 36 weeks is full term for twins. I did it that morning in the shower, and went into labor that night at 9:00. It kinda scared me when I went into labor. I was wondering if I should have done it, but both babies were as ready as they could be, they were born so healthy. That is something I saw other people doing while I was pregnant,(on a pregnant internet site) so I tried it, and it worked. My husband & I had intercourse that morning also, so that may have played a role in it. Best of luck to ya.

Hello A., sorry to say that if you haven't started to dilate any then nothing will really help til it is time! Now sex and walking like up and down stairs will help once you are ready!! My last one, the Dr. check me and told me to start walking up and down his stairs and after 3 flights then I was ready to go across the street and have her and that's what I did but not for another 3 hours!! So you can try walking, sex, spicy food and bumpy roads but until you are dilating and thinning then your wasting your time and energy! Good luck anyway and I hope you deliver soon!!!

I too am right on the verge of popping, but I am only 38 weeks!!! Check this link for some things that people have told me, although my doctor has specifically said none of them work. He did suggest the first two with my last pregnancy, but neither worked for me.

Lot of people have sworn to me that the Castor Oil works, but it is highly debated. It makes you very sick. Just make sure you do your research before you try any of these.

Good luck
