I tried EVERYTHING they say to do to get labor started and nothing worked for me....until I gave up trying. I finally came to peace with the fact she wasn't coming for a while and that's when I went into labor.
So, good luck! Everyone has advice on what will work....

Personally, I don't think there is much you can do to start labor. You can help it along once it starts, but I don't think you can actually START labor on purpose in a healthy pregnancy (i.e. no reason for bedrest or other such problems). You're just going to have to wait until he decides to come out unless your doctor is willing to induce which I've heard is horrible in comparison with just letting it happen naturally!

I know how you feel. It is soooo hard to be sooo pregnant. Both my boys waited 42 weeks. However, keep in mind that your baby know's when it is time. These days we hear alot about how to "get the baby here"... but really the baby knows when it's time. We really need to let him come when he is ready. In any case, because the "deadline" is 42 weeks b4 doc's start to panic, instead of accepting their cocktail of membrane stripping, bag rupturing and pitocin... i took 4 shots of castor oil at 1:00pm and delivered my son at 10:00pm. I am giving you this info assuming you are at least 40 weeks pregnant. :) Good Luck

I agree with the labor and delivery nurse! I know that the castor oil is a good way to go-- if you can handle the taste! Make sure to take it the right way though, any overdosing of it isn't good. I took just 2 1/2 oz, and went into labor within 12 hours with 2 of my children. My friend took all 4 oz at once, and only managed to clean herself out, and throw up! She was told by her mid wife later (almost 5-6 days later), that she could try again, but slowly this time. She ended up in labor within 12 hours also. She was also past her due date.
Word of caution: the labor could be quick! Especially if you've had children already.
Good luck. If nothing works, then the baby isn't ready to come yet, and God is still working on him/her :)

Have your OB strip your membranes. If they do it good enough (mine caused my butt to cramp on one side briefly!) then it should work! I had mine done in the morning and had my baby that evening.
Godspeed!

Ok, so you will think I am crazy, but I read some where that you need to tell your baby you are ready for him or her to come. We did that and my 20 month old daughter looked at my belly and said, "baby, come out." I went up the stairs to use the bathroom and my water broke. Worth a shot! Hang in there. The baby will eventually come.
