I was wondering if anyone has a GMC Acadia or Hyundai Veracruz. I am deciding between these two cars (2008 model, but feedback on 2007 would be helpful as well). I am most concerned with safety and comfort as I will be the primary driver with my two children. I have test-driven both, but looking for additional feedback. I am particulalry interested in any feedbcak on the rear view as the Acadia has a smaller rear window. I have primarily driven a Toyota Corolla for the past 7 1/2 years so I am most comfortable in a smaller car, but need the extra space with kids getting older and friends joiing us for activities etc. Thanks for any input at all. I appreciate it.

Hi there Christina-

Consumer reports has rated the 2007 models of each a 75 out of 100, but made the GMC Acadia a Consumer reports best bet. My husband is in the car business and I know he says the reliability & resale of GMC is better than the Hyundai, so my vote is for GMC! Happy car shopping (=

Hi, Just a thought. I recently bought a new car and after lots of research settled on a Mazda 5. Its like a "mini" mini van- gets great gas mileage, plenty of room....you might want to check it out as well.

I have a friend who just bought the Acadia and is happy with it. She was also looking at the Saturn that is the same as the Acadia, I believe it is called the outlook. I think either one would be better than the Hundai. GMC has a better following than the Hyundai. My husband who is into cars liked both the Saturn and Acadia. Good Luck.
We just got a new Honda van in 2005 and really like it if you are looking for a van possibly.

GMC cars are junk. Want it in the shop a lot? Do that. Hyundai are pretty reliable but personally, I would never drive anything but a Honda or Toyota especially with children. That is what I have done for years. Never regretted it. Honda Pilot or Toyota Highlander great cars and just the right size. They have them in Hybrids too. Really, don't sacrifice your safety and reliability for price. Good luck. Don't forget to ask for the Internet Manager when you call. Can get better pricing and bargain a lot. You will do well.

Hi there, my husband and I bought a 2008 Acadia in November and I love it. I had driven a Saturn for the past 7 years, so moving up to a big car has been quite a change, but a welcome one. The rear window is fine to see out of. The one thing that I notice is when looking over my shoulder to change lanes, it's hard to see smaller cars in my blind spot, but the mirrors come in handy for that. We have all the bells and whistles too and it's just an awesome car. I have no complaints at all!

I have a Saturn outlook which is equivalent to a GM Arcadia. After extensive research and test driving I found that the Saturn is safer, cheaper, nicer, and has better service and quality. I love my car 2007 outlook... Good luck

Hi Christina,
Have you heard of the radio talk show, CarTalk on PBS radio? they are on Sat/Sun from 10-11am in the bay area. They have a great website (cartalk.com) with tons of info and car comparisons. I used it to help me decide between 2 cars a couple of years ago.
Best of luck!

HI,

We just bought the GMC Acadia SLT-1. I love it. It is super comfortable and easy for the kids to walk through (we have the captain's chairs in the second row). The back window isn't a problem, but the entire size of the car may take some getting used to after driving a sedan for so long. The only complaint I have about this car is the mileage. GMC claimed 16 city/22 hwy, but so far, according tot he car itself, it is averaging more like 13 mpg, period. Granted, I may have a bit of a lead foot, but there is an entire website dedicated to the gas mileage of this car, and there are a lot of people that are disappointed. Other than that, I really do love it so far. Good luck!

My sister has an Acadia and loves it. I drove it a few times the last time I saw her and was impressed. We had four car seats in the car and 4 adults - a little cramped but safe.
