We're considering going camping for a week this summer for our vacation. We don't have a tent or camper/trailer so we stay at KOA's...most have kamping kabins. We're looking at the Colorado Springs area. Has anyone camped at a KOA around there? Which one? Did you like it? I was looking at the Cripple Creek KOA. There's seems to be a lot to in the local area but the campground looks kind of sparse. There are very few trees in the campground, just a few small ones. We go to a KOA here in AZ a lot that we love it. It's like camping in the woods. A pool would be great too. It's a perfect way to entertain the kids.
We're open to other destinations too if you have any suggestions. We would just need to drive there. I think a 12 hours drive is our max. Thank you!
We made a reservation at jellystone park. We're renting an RV from them as opposed to a cabin so it's even better. Can't wait.Thank you for all your suggestions and information.
Durango, CO has two campgrounds that have cabins, a pool, fun stuff for kids, etc They are Durango Riverside Resort and Lightner Creek Campground. We have stayed at Lightner Creek and had a great time. Durango is very fun to explore...we hiked, rented bikes, and went rafting. The cabins go quick so make reservations asap!
There are Jellystone parks in Colorado. They typically have cabins as well.

A large tent can cost you $165 at Costco - it's a Coleman tent and you can stand up in it. I would invest in a tent and sleeping bags if you plan on making camping part of your life...gives you more flexibility...

Take a look at Moab UT. My cousin in NM goes there often. He likes to mountain bike.

I was going to mention Durango as well. From AZ, it should be a shorter drive. But mostly, it's absolutely gorgeous there. Colo Springs is nice, too, but Durango is stunning.
