Camera Frustration

My husband got me what is supposed to be a good digital camera for Christmas. I have another week before the gift receipt expires, and I'm still not convinced (400+ pictures later after the holidays and playing around with it!) I have taken it back to BEst Buy several times. It is a Cannon Power Shot SX120. It eats batteries like crazy. I am on probably my 5th or 6th set--finally bought rechargables; now that the holidays are over, not sure how the rechargables work since I'm not snapping as many pictures. It also takes a while to reset btw photos; and often seems to think it should be in "macro" mode (for a super close up for something small). Does anyone else have this camera and what are your thoughts. It is supposed to be one of the best and easiest.

What can I do next?

Sounds like something might be wrong with it......Does anyone at Best Buys know anything about that camera? I don't have that one, but that just sounds wrong. Take it back and if they don't know, get another one and try it in the store with your batteries. See if you seem to have the same issues.....Good luck.

I don't have it but if you take it back look at the sony cybershots with a ion battery. I lost mine and didn't even look at any different models. The only thing that I don't like about it is that there isn't an option to delete all pics at once..

I have a Canon PowerShot A560 and I hate it. I can hardly get through one activity before the batteries die. I've tried the rechargeable and they were a little better but it sucked the life out of them too. For what I paid for the camera I didn't think it was worth it. I don't really like the picture quality either it seems grainy and the more you zoom in the worse it is. Hope this helps. I wish I had used mine more before my time had run out because I probably would have returned it. Also Best Buy isn't one of the best places to buy from. I've experienced and have had a lot of people have problems with stuff from there especially electronics. Good Luck!

I have heard that if you have a higher "byte" memory card it will help with the reloading between pictures. My mother in law had the same problem so we bought her a larger SD card. Not sure of the outcome. That might help with the battery as wel... Good Luck!

I do not have "this canon camera"...yet will say that I believe most digital cameras eat batteries and most photographers recommend having the rechargeable ones as well a charger for them. I haven't used regular batteries in years, but have not had issues with the rechargeable ones with my Nikon or Canon.
In general Digital is different than the "old" cameras..and many pro photographers that had to go from the old to the digital age will tell you that it's complicated and most do not care to do photography on a prof. level with them now or at all.
This camera may not be right for you. Either way and regardless which digital you have or choose it pays to read all you can about it, starting with the manual that came with it as well know that many places that sell these cameras will offer a free beginners course free of cost if you bought from them..however most beginner classes anywhere are not horribly expensive and def. worth the cost to get the most out of your camera. Hope this helps a little...it can be fun, it just takes time.

I have the Canon PowerShot SX10 IS and absolutely love it! I did find that regular AA batteries will get used up quite quickly. I've gotten really good use out of Energizer Ultimate Lithium batteries. They're made for things such as digital cameras and I've been able to get hundreds of pictures before the batteries need replacing. I am looking into buying rechargeables, but haven't done much research into them yet. A few recommendations I've gotten are Duracell NiMH Rechargeable 2650mAH, lithium polymer or lithium ion batteries, and Eneloops. The camera shouldn't be putting itself in macro unless you pushed the button for that. I would bring the camera in to a camera store and ask about that. Also, my husband and I were just in Best Buy looking at the small point and shoots for my daughter. I remember looking at your camera (just to compare to mine) and found I didn't like the pictures it took while in the store and wouldn't get that one, but found a couple other Canons that I liked. I just read some reviews online and they echoed that sentiment as well. After reading the reviews, I'd take yours back and look at getting a different one...just make sure you take a few pictures in store and find one that you like while you're there. :)
