Do you moms have any ideas for a craft that 5th grade kids would enjoy? It would have to be done within 30 minutes which is the problem I'm running into. I have googled craft ideas and can't seem to find any for 5th graders. I do not have a creative bone in my body, so I'm looking forward to reading your ideas!!
Thanks in advance!

Does it have to be a craft? How about a fun experiment like making "Gak" aka slime? http://www.stevespanglerscience.com/experiment/00000039

I've done this for silly science programs many times. I usually make up either a half gallon or a gallon of the borax/water mix:
1/2 gallon water + 1/4 cup Borax + 4 tsps Borax
1 gallon water + 1/2 cup Borax + 8 tsps Borax

Then I give the kids equal parts warm water and glue in a plastic cup to mix together. (I also give them a popsicle stick for mixing.)

Once they've mixed the water and glue together, I give them a small cup with the Borax mixture to add slowly to their glue mixture. The slime will begin to form.

Slime can be put in ziploc bags for further at home play.

You can add a drop or two of food coloring to the water/glue mixture to make it green, etc.

Check out Oriental Trading Company for ideas. They have kits but I have seen some things on their site that give me ideas for other things.

Are you trying to come up with something for the Halloween party at school? We used to have to have a crafty thing to do for a few minutes, and snacks. Can you have them decorate Halloween cupcakes or cookies? Just a thought. If not, here's another idea. I was at the doctor's office today, and picked up a magazine to read, and it had several pages of crafty quick things to do for Halloween. Can't remember the exact name of the mag, but it was like Better Homes & Gardens, or Ladies Home Journal, one of those, and the front cover was all pumpkins and fall stuff. Good luck!!

My kids are a little younger but this may work. I make ghosts with the kids. I buy cheap fabric, styrafoam balls and some wire. Put the fabric over the ball, tie with wire, put wire underneath and stab into the ball to make arms. Draw faces. My kids will then decorate them with necklaces and bells. You can even put a stick in it so they can stick it in the ground.
You can do a ton with Styrofoam balls and pipe cleaners. Nicolescrafts.com usually has good ideas to copy.
Good luck

Buy those tiny little pumpkins (they are really gourds), some paint, glitter, felt, pipe cleaners, etc. and have the kids decorate their own mini-jack-o-lantern. I also make Halloween-shaped sugar cookies and frosting, get sprinkles or candy and let the kids decorate those.
