15 Minute Kids Craft
Hello,
I am hoping for some great input from creative moms/teachers. I have posted on this site before and I have never been disappointed by the response. I am helping out at my daughter's Christmas party this year and I am incharge of a 15 minute craft. I will be given a small group of kids for about 15 minutes, to do a Seasonal craft. I am drawing a blank. I don't want to do painting on anything because the party is at the end of the day and I don't know if the teacher has room to "dry" all the art work. Something easy for a 1st grader and something quick because of the time frame.
Thanks in Advance :)

So What Happened?™
I just wanted to say Thank You for the outpouring of ideas and websites that were provided. It was all such a great relief and I found some wonderful ideas. Through a website provided in one of the suggestions, I found a perfect craft. We made Magical Santa Keys. I precut a key shape out of poster board, pre printed a few of the little message cards to attach "Santa's Magical Key If you don't have a chimney for Santa to come down, leave this magic key outside and your gifts will still be found". I had the children color the keys with crayons and then use Q-tips to cover them with glue, next was the ever famous GLITTER. Lastly I used ribbon to connect the message to the key and they were finished. It was perfect, easy, child friendly and fit the time provided. The glitter got a little messy but then again doesn't it always?! Again Thank you soooo sooo much for all of the help, once again I was not disappointed,

I was just at Michael's...they have foamy glittered wreathes, candy canes and x-mas trees with pre-sticky decorations to stick on them. Target has much the same, also holiday necklaces the kiddos can assemble.
My kiddos like to make santa claus handprints. On a piece of red paper we put a white handprint upside down. We draw a face and glue a spread cotton balls across the bottom finger pattern to make a beard. Anything can be made into a hat ie: construction paper, drawn with markers.
Good Luck, it seems as if all the previous responses have been awesome. I can't wait to try some of them with my kiddos!

To keep my little ones busy on Thanksgiving, I gave them these little foam assembly crafts I bought at Pat cattans for under a dollar each. They could put together a snowman, xmas tree, snowflake, santa, there were a ton to pick from. You would need glue sticks (non toxic kind) and that's it! They were very cute, inexpensive, and the kids enjoyed them.

Hi D.,
My source for all things cute and crafty is littlegiraffes.com.
Take a peek -

The Christmas light necklaces and the handprint reindeer are pretty cute. She has the best crafts and she is a K teacher so it's the perfect level for your kiddos.
Hope that helps!

What about a peel & sick foamy craft? Kids love those and they are not messy at all. You could do an ornament, picture frame or a winter scene on a 8x10 foamy background.
You can also try orientaltrading.com. My son's class isdoing a penguin snow measuring stick.

I just did a christmas craft with my kids (6/4) that was cute. We made a reindeer out of their hands/feet. We traced their foot on brown construction paper and that was the body... then we traced two hands and those were the antlers.. then we put on a red button for the nose, googly eyes, and use a pipe cleaner for the smile. not sure how long it took though or would take for you.

I just did a craft for my 7yr old's birthday party which is seasonal but non-religious. We made snow-flakes! Just pipe-cleaners and beads, no glue, no paint, no special tools.
Take 3 pipe-cleaners 6 or 8 inches long (I cut 12 inch craft pipe cleaners in half). Twist them in the middle and splay the ends to make a 6 pointed star. Thread any type of beads onto the 6 legs of the pipe-cleaner star. Turn the end of the wire in a loop when finished to assure the beads will not fall off the wire. Add a loop of ribbon to one wire's turned end to hang. I found the idea through "oriental tradings" website where they sell kits to make the snowflakes but I just went to the local sewing/ craft store (Joann's in my case) and bought the large economy bags of different beads I liked (be sure to include colored beads even though I did not see them as snowflake appropriate the children ALL used the color beads more than the crystal-like plastic beads I bought) and pipe-cleaners.
I suggest having the 6 pointed stars done before hand, having the beads in pie pans, and having your loops of ribbon cut to length and knotted in a loop. This way the children can focus on the beading (sliding the beads down the pipe cleaner). It also works to improve small-motor skills and can be tied to math skills of pattern making.
Hope this helps!
Fondly,
ann m.

I am doing gingerbread men for my daughters kindergarten class. I usually make all of the men and bring icing and treats to decorate. One of the mothers tells me that Michaels actually carries the kits. I don't know if it will work in 15 minutes? It is so nice because they get to eat it and there is no messy crafts to take home. (after 4 kids i have soooo many crafts i don't know what to do with them all...lol!)

Wreaths, made with pipe cleaners, beads with large holes, (so the pipe cleaner threads easily) and a bit of ribbon for a bow. You can get red and green pipe cleaners and clear beads, or use your imagination.
Also a wreath made from the rim of a fluted paper plate. (Cut out the middle).Embellished with little foam Christmas shapes(available at Michael's) Add a paper cut-out bow or a ribbon bow.
