Hi this is my 4th c section and it has been 2 almost 3 weeks and I am still in alot of pain that it throbs on my left side of the incision. There is no puss or anything on the outside but I feel really bad still and I dont remember it hurting like this for so long. I took all my pain medication as prescribed and have ran out so now all I take is tylenol xtra strength. This does not help at all? Can anyone tell me how or what to do about this?

What can I do next?

I would call the doctors office now and if they think you should go to the ER then go. You could have a nasty infection brewing on that side and you don't want it to get out of hand. I had a terrible miscut c-section and I was in pain for months. Some seem to bounce right back and others not so easy. Since you have had this experience before I would definitely call today. Good luck!

Insist on seeing your OB/Gyn. You are probably fine but best to get it checked. I had what I have come to believe were ridiculously easy and pain free c-births so I think any pain after almost 3 weeks sounds crazy.

You have a newborn to take care of and that means you have to take extra good care of yourself mama!

You need to call your OBGYN immiately, and make sure there is no infection. He/she can check your labwork and make sure that your white blood count and such is okay. If necessary, he can start you on antibiotics. It is not wise to wait, b/c of spread of infection. There is always the possibility of staff infection also. It happens more frequently then people are aware of that do not work in the medical field.

I am talking from previous experience.

You can only make sure that everything is okay, and you have nothing to loose by ensuring your health and well being.

I would call my doctor, and in the mean time stop taking Tylenol and start taking Advil or Aleve. They are different types of drugs and it is not surprising that the Tylenol doesn't help.
Good luck!

Gosh, I'd call the doc in the morning and tell them you need some more pain meds and explain it to them. My DIL was in pain for almost an entire year after having her C section, some are easy some are not I guess. Right now maybe you should try doing the hot and cold compress alternating them back and forth every 10 minutes. Pain sucks, I hate it. I have herniated disks right now and have to take the pain meds in a timely fashion because if I do it too late the pain is excruciating and takes a long while to subside. I've been using the heat and cold and it does seem to help some and feels comforting. Take your tylenols and then use the heating pad to get the blood circulating to the area, then use the cold to take down the inflammation, just keep rotating till your doc tells you otherwise tomorrow.
Maybe switch to Aleve or Motrin since the tylenol doesnt seem to be doing the trick
Hope you feel better soon.... its so hard to concentrate when pain is in the way.... I'm sure you are being short tempered, I know I have been and my husband is hatin it, lol.

It doesn't surprise me that you are not feeling up to par. I had 3 c-sections myself.(The last one took me almost a year to finally start feeling up to par) My doctor told me that the biggest reason is all of the scar tissue that they have to cut through each time. With this being your 4th and only 3 weeks out I'm sure it is harder for you to get the proper rest needed. This is a major surgery and you are supposed to have appropiate rest, diet etc. Also, I would think your doctor would be willing to give more pain meds if needed. Good Luck and congrats.

Call your Dr. . See if they want you to come in. In the meantime tell them you need more meds. Also ask for 800 MG Motrin. And alternate that and your pain meds. Good Luck

I just had my 4th C-Section in April and I will still get pretty sore if I lift things. But after my 3rd C-Section, 7 years ago, my incision wouldn't close and I developed a hernia. It hurt pretty good. I was able to bypass the meds by using moist heat. I'm allergic to pain meds so I had to do without. The moist heat helped a bunch. Be sure to mention this at your follow up appointment. Congratulations on your new little one!

Go to your ob/gyn. I developed an infection after my first c-section. I did not know it - jsut thought that was how you felt after a c-section. How I wish I had gone to the ob/gyn sooner! If it's nothing - you get peace of mind. If it's something - you get help.

Good Luck!

My C section hurt for about a month...and after that I was still achey but it was tolerable. I was instructed to NOT take Tylenol. I was instructed to take Motrin for the pain. I took that and it helped alot. My feeling for you is you are still in alot of pain because you are chasing 4 kids around..you need to let yourself heal and stop being on the go.

I had the same pain, and I would definately call your doctor. My pain was more of a burning pain on my left side. I just delt with the pain, but it caused bonding issues with my baby. It hurt so bad to even hold her!

I have also had 4 c-sections. My 1st and 3rd recoveries were really hard. I have found that Motrin/Advil worked better for me and helped with the swelling of the muscles too. I would call your obgyn and see if they can give you something to help!

Good luck and try to take it easy (HA, HA)!

I agree to call the dr. Even if there is no infection (which you definitely want to rule out first), dealing with the pain can actually make your healing process slow down. I've had 2 c/s's and the 2nd was harder than the first. Tylenol never helps me, so I use Advil or Aleve (which also helps with swelling). Your dr will want to know what's going on with you, and can tell you how best to treat this pain.

You may have an abcess or infection inside your abdominal cavity. They are quite common in cesarean surgeries, so I'd check that out with your Dr.
