Burnt Popcorn Smell in Microwave

We accidentally set the wrong time for the popcorn (and then walked away from it!) in the microwave. Needless to say it was burnt something awful. We threw the bag in the outside trash can and I wiped out the microwave with soap and water. This morning it still stinks! So I used 409-type cleaner on it. Still stinks. I just cooked some food in the microwave and maybe it's my imagination but I think the food tastes smoky/burnt. Any suggestions?

What can I do next?

We did this accidentally when our house was on the market! Here is what you do - buy vinegar (white) and put bowls of it all around the house - on top of the fridge, on the counter, etc... vinegar naturally absorbs smell. Voila - smell gone. We used about 10 bowls all over the house.

I did this before and actually had the bag catch on fire while in the microwave, lol. I did a combination of things. I put a bowl of 1/2 vinegar and 1/2 water in and boiled it for a good 10 minutes, then let it cool until I could touch the bowl to get it out. I wiped the inside down with paper towels and tossed them. That got rid of the burnt smell, but left me with a vinegar smell which can be just as obnoxious. So I did the same thing with lemon scented amonia and water. After that I was left with just lemon and clean smell.

I've never tried it, but when I read your request thought about baking soda? You could make a paste out of it (with water) and wipe the microwave with that. Or leave a box in the microwave for a few days.

Try boiling some water with white vinegar or lemons. Then wash it down with a vinegar solution. You may also want to try keeping a bowl of baking soda in the microwave when you're not using it until the smell goes away.
I haven't tried these, but I know that both vinegar and baking soda are great at absorbing/getting rid of unwanted odors.

I did that once too. The good news is that this is a lesson you will remember! I wiped the inside down with baking soda and water, then left the box of baking soda sit in there for a couple of days. It took a couple of days for the smell to go away enough for me to use it, but after that I could only smell it when it was sitting for a long time unopened. I left the box there for probably a month in between uses and it was gone. Good luck.

I did the same thing. Try putting a bowl or plate of coffee grounds in the microwave... don't cook them - just let them sit uncovered - close the door. They'll absorb the odors. Also - put some white vinegar in the water when you wipe it out. It takes awhile but it works.

Try some baking soda on a damp cloth to wipe it out.

I would try and boil water in microwave for 3 to 5 min till it gets very hot then wipe it out if that dont work may need to replace microwave.
