Since I'm not sure what you've tried, here are several things to try.

1. baking soda - mix with water and microwave for a few minutes
2. lemons - slice, mix with water and microwave for a few minutes
3. vinegar - wipe on directly, let sit for a few minutes, wipe clean or mix with water and microwave for a few minutes
4. Clorox Cleaner w/bleach - spray on, let it set for a few minutes, wipe away
5. enzymatic cleaner (pet odor eliminator, urine remover) - spray on, let it set for a few minutes, wipe off
6. liquid potpourri/scented oils (any smell you like) - mix with water, microwave for a few minutes
7. fresh coffee grounds - mix with water, microwave for a few minutes
8. tea bags - mix with water, microwave for a few minutes
9. activated charcoal (can be purchased at Walmart or any pet store) - no need to mix with water, put in bowl, leave over night
10. Borax - mix with water into paste and cover walls, let set for a few minutes and wipe clean OR mix with water and microwave for a few minutes
11. nail polish remover (cleans yellowed interior) - wipe inside of microwave with soaked cotton balls, let sit and wipe clean

You may have to repeat a process or use a combination of them. Most of the items that are mixed with water need to be heated to a boil to work the best, but you can try just getting them hot and leaving them sit. Try the methods that involve items you already have at home first. Check the microwave every few seconds to make sure that what you are heating isn't getting too hot or burning. Microwaves vary in the temperature of the settings because some have higher voltage than others. High temp on one microwave may be several degrees hotter than another. So, some may only take 2-3 minutes and others may take 4-5 minutes. You don't have to stand in front of the microwave for the whole process, but keep an eye on what's cooking. Hopefully one of these methods will work. Good Luck!

My MIL swears by odo-ban. I've also used baking soda solution in the past to get rid of smells but you have to let it sit for a while.

Try cleaning the microwave out with baking soda and water. She may want to rub the mixture inside her microwave & then leave it on the interior for 25-30 mins before wiping it out. She may also want to sprinkle some baking soda on her carpeting and upholstery as well, making sure to leave it sit for a while before cleaning it up. Chances are it's in her curtains as well. And again, add baking soda to the water if she's going to wash them--about 1 full cup to a standard load size. Hope this helps!

I have used white vinegar to get out the burnt popcorn smell. Put some white vinegar (full strength) in a microwave safe cup (I used a coffee mug). Microwave it a bit and then just leave it sit in the microwave. It takes a while, but it does get the smell out (and it's not labor intensive at all!)

I've done the same thing. Put vinegar and water with lemon slices in a Pyrex cup/dish and cook it until it boils. I had to do this several times, letting the water steam and boil so the steam would get into the exhaust system of the microwave. Steaming lemon/water will leave both your microwave and home smelling nice.

She could try vinegar and water and then wiping out the microwave. Also put some baking soda on a plate and let it sit in the microwave with the door closed or even like coal or charcoal. Baking soda helps take away odors and so does charcoal. Good luck!

to get the smell out of the kitchen. Put coffee in a cup(ground coffee right from the can). It will eliminate almost any smell within 24 hours. Its great in basements, closed up campers/rvs, homes people smoke in. It's easy and most people have it in their house already.

I am not sure if it would work in the microwave though.

She can place dishes of coffee (from the can -- not grounds) in her kitchen and throughout the house. It really eliminates odors. Also, boil water in a pan on the stove with cinnamon & cloves in the water.

Put a bowl of baking soda in the microwave anytime that is not in use. It might take a week or so, but the smell will go away. This happens at work all the time and that's what we do.

Hi L.,

Chris D, said the right thing. I have done that so many times and I am glad that there is somebody else who does the same thing. I have not try the coffee and I would not.
