What can I do next?

We have been to a few Build-A-Bear parties and I have sworn them off for the future! We spent $50 each party to get the accessories etc. which isn't a huge deal, but not every parent wants to take their child to a party where they have to spend so much money. The other MAJOR issue is that there is nowhere to have cake, etc. and so we ended up having to sit in the food court to do that which was a ZOO! It was loud and all I wanted to do at that point was pack up my kid and GO! I told my husband that in the future if we get invited to parties at Build-A-Bear or Chuck E. Cheese, that if he wanted to take our son have at it, but I was done with those two places! I also felt badly at the last party because we let our son pick out whatever he wanted for his bear, but not all of the other parents did (expense thing) and some of the kids were saying things like, "But look at Rourke's bear." I felt bad. I would recommend finding somewhere else.

We have both had and been to parties at Build-a-Bear. My childern LOVE Build-a-Bear. You (the party mom) sets the price limit for each child. If another mom chooses to spend more on her child, that is acceptable but I think it is rude to have others only getting the $25 or so for their bear and then that child gets anything they want. There is no place in the store for cake and presents, but the food court is not too bad if you do it at "off peak" times. We had a party at 10am and one at 3pm and both were great! The food court was nearly empty, so we had whatever tables we wanted. We set up our table cloth and cake and had a great time. My children are 7 and 9 and both would like to have another Build-a-Bear party. I love the idea of the Noah's Ark thing though. That sounds like fun to have it all in your own home, but then you have to deal with all the clean up from presents, cake and ice cream, etc. Anyway, as with every option for a child's party, there are pros and cons to Build-a-Bear. My daughter had her first Build-a-Bear party when she turned 2. It was so cute! One little boy decided to sit on the stuffing peddle instead of standing on it! TOO FUNNY!! Anyway, hope that helps.

I saw a Build a Bear party that looked really neat. The mom said that she allowed the children to build a bear (but she didn't put a price limit on it and it got a little out of hand--be careful with that and set a limit for each child), then the kids went to mall's food court. The mom had called ahead and reserved a few tables in the food court (which were roped off) and just ordered a pizza from a place in the food court for the kids to eat. The food court has a huge carosel(sp?) and each of the kids got 1 free ticket to ride it. It was a low cost party(except for the bears) and the kids had a blast!

My daughter attended a birthday party at Build A Bear and it was a HUGE hit. The mom had everyone meet at their house where the girls made tiaras and septors out of craft foam. All the girls were dressed in their princess dress as well. We carpooled to the mall and had the party. Afterwards we went back to their house for snacks and cake. There was a $20 limit on the bear so the extra stuff that I baught for my daughter's bear was discretely given to another employee while the kids were being entertained by our party host. I left the stuff in the bag until we got home so none of the other children would feel bad about not getting as much stuff as my daughter. Our group was mostly 4 year olds, but there were a few older kids and they enjoyed it as well.

We've had 2 parties at Build-A-Bear & had fun at both! Some things to think about though. You can't bring in food or drinks, so depending on which Build-A-Bear you choose, you have to find somewhere close by to do cake & open presents. The party itself is fun & you, as the parent, don't have to do much. They play games & sing songs, so a 3 year old would really love it.
