Bridesmaid's Updo on the Westside, Downtown Los Angeles, or San Gabirel Valley?

Hi everyone;
I'm in a wedding on Oct. 24th and the bride wants us all to wear updo's. The stylist she has selected is going to be very busy that day as there are almost 20 people who need their hair done and he is having him come to her hotel room to do it. Needless to say it will be very crowded. Also, he is charging $70 per bridesmaid. Is this high? Low? Right on? ALSO, I have collar-one length hair that is very fine and straight and I'll need to wear a hair-piece (bride's request) so that we can all have the same hair. Does anyone have a recommendation for a stylist that can do this for UNDER $70. I have already spent over $200 on the dress, and $60 on the shoes. Another $45 to get my makeup done by her artist, not to mention chipping in for the shower, a shower gift, a wedding gift, and a bachelorette party. If I can save a few bucks that would be great.

I'm sure you can find someone closer to you, but I love Heather at Glendale SalonSpa. The website lists prices for updo's starting at $75. However, there is an "apprentice" there by the name of Ani who also does really nice work, she just takes a little longer. Might be worth calling and asking about the price, since she is also, generally, a little less expensive.

You're a good friend for forking over all that cash! Hope the wedding is beautiful!

Hi--
I've been a bridesmaid in a lot (think 7+) weddings and have been searching LA for the best up do places that don't break the bank, especially after you shell out lots of money for the dress and other bridesmaid related things. I found good deals on lifebooker.com. They have salons all over and if you reserve through the site, its significantly less, $50 vs $100. You reserve and put your CC info in the website but they don't charge it until after your apt--its just to make sure you come. And they all honor the said price.
In August I booked an updo at Oliver Ifergan Atelier in Beverly Hills through Lifebooker and was really happy with them--and I have really thick curly hair. Usually up-dos for me are double the cost of normal up-dos because of all my hair.

Sorry this is so long--I definitely understand what you're going through.

Try Lifebooker and I know you can find a good place near you.

Oh and Congrats!

Wow, sorry, but this sounds totally unreasonable and selfish to me. This bride is out of control. The $260 for dress and shoes you will most likely never wear again is enough, not to mention the other expenses. I think that is a lot of gall to ask all the bridesmaids to fork over money to a make-up artist and a hair stylist of her choosing. It would be one thing for her to say, "I'm booking these people for the day and if you would like to take advantage of their services, this is what they charge." Telling you this is what you must do and spend to be in my wedding is inconsiderate and rude. I would not feel at all wrong telling her thanks, but no thanks to these extra services. She picked you because you are her friend and she loves you. She should allow you to look like you.

Try Jinko at Lipstic Salon on Venice (at Beethoven)
I think she charges $50, but you should confirm.

I would think the cheapest updo you'll find would be $50 but $70 is more realistic to pay. Before you book someone, I would check their book first (pictures). Lots of stylists "claim" they can do an updo but not all of them really can.

I agree that your friend has really pushed well past the boundaries of ettiquite here. I agree that insisting you add a hairpiece and use a makeup artist is pretty thoughtless and frankly, rude. I also think you should be able to put your hair up yourself if you can pull it off. If this is something she really wants you to do, she should pay for it herself. Good luck!
