Breast Feeding How Do I Stop

I nursed my son till he was 18 months, and had the same problem. I started to give him a blanket at night and when we nursed. I then told him that Mommy milk as he called it was for baby's and that he was a big boy. I also told him that if big boys had mommy milk that it was an ouch, I then put bandaids on my breast.That night when he went to nurse i told him it was an ouchie, he saw the bandaids and realized it was and ouchie. after that night he hasn't nursed. Honestly, after such a huge transition/change in your life and family, I would not encourage weaning just yet. My youngest was about the same - only nursing at nap and night at that age. I would continue your don't ask, don't refuse strategy for a little while longer until she feels secure and settled in your new environment. For evenings, you could try to have someone else put her to sleep to see if that eliminates the night time nursing. But really, being attached to mom milk is a great, healthy thing and you are lucky to have continued your nursing relationship so long!

The move may have made her "need" to nurse more often again.

I weaned my daughter at about 22 months. At that point she was only nursing at night. it took about two weeks because I went slowly. I timed it every night and would sing to her while I nursed. I went from 4 minutes a side to three, to two...etc. Finally I was just rocking her and singing a song. She would get drowsy and I would put her to bed. It worked well.

I nursed my daughter for a long time. And when I say long, I mean she was weaned at 3 1/2 years-old. There was a story behind why it went so long, but in short, I didn't mind and neither did she. Anyway, I finally hit a point where I had to stop for medical reasons. I just had to tell her, "Momma can't." And not give in. Not even once. It was so hard, but it really only took about 3 days and she quit asking. We still had our cuddle time and I held her in the rocker for a while before bed, so she never got emotional about it.

I nursed 3 of my children for 2 years. I just stopped when I was ready and they didn't really seem to care. If she notices or cares, I'd just say "no more milk"... Good luck!

I nurse my 22-month-old during the day, but awhile ago, I just personally didn't want to nurse lying down anymore. (I was never one to fall asleep while nursing.) I would just say "no nursing at bedtime" and lay with him until he falls asleep. Be consistent so she knows there's not much point asking.
