Hey Ladies, I need to get new brakes on my Expedition. We are going on a trip in a few weeks and want to make sure we travel safely. Any good, dependable, reasonably priced places around? We are in Argyle, but will travel to get good service. Thanks!

Whatever you do, DON'T go to Just Brakes. My SUV needed new brakes and I had heard bad things about Just Brakes, but my then fiancee went ahead, and we have had nothing but problems with my brakes since. There was tons of stuff they said that we needed to replace and it would have cost almost $3000 to do what they asked. It was a total rip-off! So avoid them at all costs!

If you are willing to do this go to www.autopartswarehouse.com and purchase your brakes through them. You can get better brakes than what a dealership or other store will install. After you get the brakes (should only take a few days) call a couple of repair shops (dealerships, NTB, wherever) and find out the labor cost to install them. It will probably be considerably cheaper than going to the service center and paying for parts and labor. We did this for my Audi a few months ago. The dealership was going to charge us $2500 for parts and labor. Through auto parts warehouse and a local European car service center we only paid $500.

Tommy's Hi-Tech Auto in Denton (On Ft. Worth Dr.) and Repairs Unlimited in Lewisville are both GREAT.

I have also used Sears Automotive at Vista Ridge Mall. We recently priced out brakes for our Explorer at a local auto shop and Sears beat them by $200! My uncle has worked at Sears Automotive for over 20 years (both in Texas and Florida) and I can say that they are all very dependable and fairly priced. I'm sure your local Sears Automotive will provide great service at a fair price. The best part is that they guarantee all of their work so if you are on a road trip and have any problems, any Sears Automotive can help you out. Good Luck!

I have used Sears Auto Dept. at Vista Ridge Mall for brakes before. They are really honest and great since they don't have any high-pressure managers pushing unnecessary repairs. Plus, they usually have the best or really competitive prices on brake repair. Good luck!

You might look for a Christian Brothers. We have one in Keller/ NRHills- just a hair south of Rufe Snow & Bursey, & I know they are building one off of I-35.

I second the recommendations to STAY AWAY FROM JUST BRAKES!!!!! Several years ago they changed out the brake pads on my husbands car, and less than a week later his brakes failed and he had what could have been a serious wreck. Unfortunately we could never prove that they were to blame for it, but we tell everyone to avoid them like the plauge!
