My three year old is really into police these days. Any book suggestions for him? So far all I'm coming up with is the Officer Murphy books by Richard Scarry. I'm looking for something with a storyline to give him an idea of what the police do, but it can't be too scary. Thanks!

What can I do next?

Make Way for Ducklings is a lovely picture book that features a kind police officer who stops traffic so that a mother duck and her babies can cross the road.

We really like Officer Buckle and Gloria. It's not really about what police do in general, but it's a cute story about an officer and his dog who teach safety rules at local schools.

You can search under "children's books" in Amazon and see their books by age group and several other search criteria. I've found great books that way on specific subjects.

We know about: A Day at the Police Station by Richard Scary and I Want to be a Police Officer by Dan Liebman. Searching for preschool police book on Amazon brings up some great stuff, and then you can read the reviews.

If you want to get more than the policeman, my son fell in love with the Transformer Rescue Bot series around 4yo (for whatever reason, he hated TV before then, haha) - police, fire, helicopter, dozer. Cute characters and great storylines. Very easy for 3yo to transform if you get the characters in addition to the videos/books.

Good luck!

When my kids were small they were into Fisher Price Rescue Heroes. One of the characters was a police officer. Anyway, they had toys, books and videos.

Keeping You Safe: A Book About Police Officers (Community Workers) by Owen, Ann, Thomas and Eric

I just did both an Amazon Books and a Barnes and Noble search, and came up with these three. There are also a few that describe what types of police vehicles there are, and their jobs, and one about police detective work and activities book.

Keyword search: Books on law Enforcement for Kids

By the way, Richard Scarry does the Busytown books for kids, and is an excellent kid friendly source for what jobs folks do.

Hope this helps.
