"Bleeding Colors in Clothes"

I just wqshed a brand new shirt in cold water (the recommended temperature). It was a striped shirt (mostly red with dark blue stripes) and white sleeves. I used a lot of Color Catcher Sheets in the load, but the sleeves still came out pink. I am soaking it now with more color catcher sheets. Do any of you wonderful ladies out there have any advice on how I can salvage this shirt for my son? He just bought it yesterday and LOVES it so I know he will be so sad if I cannot fix it. I look forward to your great advice!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for all of the advice! I called the number on the Color Catcher box and the representative told me to try a color remover like RIT. I followed the directions EXACTLY and even made sure it was the right RIT with colorfast qualities; however, the "bleeding red" color came out, but it also took color from the shirt and changed it to a burnt orange color!!! I called back to the Color Catcher reps and they gave me coupons to replace an entire box of Color Catcher free, get a dollar off of detergent and reimbursed me for the entire cost of the shirt. I plan to just let my son pick out a new favorite shirt!
I plan to use the vinegar method next time along with the color catcher sheets if I purchase another red shirt with white sleeves. However, it may be awhile before I do that ----LOL! Thanks for all of your advice! You all are so GREAT!

There's a product by Rit (I think) that is anti-dye that supposedly works wonderfully. You should be able to either find it or about it at a fabric store!Hope you can get it out!

Call Shout. Make sure you still have the box from the color catchers. I have only had to do it once in 5 years, but they were great. Sent me a check for the ruined load of laundry. They really do stand behind their promise!

I bought a wonderful red dress with a beautiful white collar that was dry clean only which is no big deal to me. I took it to the dry cleaner after wearing a time or two to church and they refused to clean it. They showed me a white rag dipped in the cleaning solution and then they rubbed a spot it is turned the cloth pink. I took the garment back to Wards or Penney's and told them the dry cleaners had refused it and showed them the cloth and where he had rubbed, they gave me a full refund.

Red almost always bleeds. I only by all red garments when getting something red. I wash only red stuff with blacks and dark grays. Red is a hard color to keep nice looking.

I'd probably take it back to the store and maybe buy another and dry it in the dryer before washing. When you tie-dye you usually dry it in the dryer before washing, it 'sets' the color, it might help with the bleeding problem in a new shirt.
