After Christmas, we discovered a black mildew spot under the Christmas tree where water had spilled, and now I can't get it out. Does anyone know of any carpet cleaner I can buy to get out a mildew spot? Thank you!

Even though most molds aren't toxic, we actually had a bad experience with toxic mold, and most molds are irritants, so we don't mess around anymore.

It'll cost about $10-20 for a square foot of carpet and carpet pad. Utility knife, cut out the carpet. The cut out the pad. Replace. As long as the seams are tight, you'll barely be able to see it. And a trick is to cut out the pad a few inches bigger than the carpet you're replacing, so that the seams don't line up, so you don't feel it under foot.

If it's smaller, you're only looking at a couple dollars worth of materials.

HOWEVER... You might actually just be looking at a bark/pitch/dirty water stain. Pitch/sap won't come out with ordinary cleaners... if it comes out with olive/veggie oil... then all you've got is a wee bit of sap & dirt.

No experience with mold but Spot Shot works on almost everything for me.

Try Woolite Pet Oxygen Spray (silver bottle). It gets out everything, I mean everything, so probably mildew too!

I haven't read the other responses...hope this doesn't repeat :) but I have one word....FOLEX. I buy it at Home Depot (bought some today in fact) 4.99 for a HUGE bottle. This is how good it works...

I spilled red wine on my tan carpet, forgot about it for over 1 month! Sprayed this on and BAM, the stain literally melted off the carpet.

Example 2-painting my daughter's room, the paint roller came apart and purple paint spilled on the new carpet. I almost cried, but then I got the Folex, poured it on the floor, blotted (lots of blotting on this one) and BAM!!! Latex paint completely out of the carpet.

Trust me, you'll want this by the gallon once you give it a try.
