Hi moms...sorry this question is a little off the mommy topic, but i was wondering if anyone has done the research and knows what is the BEST hair straightener out there ? I have kinda dry, slightly frizzy, and wavy/curly hair and poofy!.. My hair has always been a pain in the butt!
I recently got it cut shorter (just below my shoulders, use to always be much much longer) and want to start straightening it more often. Whats the best one out there that will do the least damage? Also what is the best product I can use on my hair before using a straightener to keep it smooth and healthy....but not greasy looking ?
THANK YOU :)

I just finished using this 1/2hr ago. My hair is really silky and shiny. It is supposed to last for 30 days. We will see. I have heard great things about this product.

Hey! So, I too have wavy, thick hair, and have tried hundreds and hundreds of dollars worth of product to find one that works to get it straight and silky. well, you're in luck! Because for the last 6 years, I've been using Smooth and Seal by Big Sexy Hair. I LOVE it. You do small sections of hair at a time when you use a straightener, but basically, you get your section combed, then spray the product on, then straighten with straightener. It's very light, if you spray it on your arm it doesn't leave any grease or residue. I've recommended to many of my friends, and it's such a good product that everyone of them who's tried it has used it ever since! I think you'll LOVE it. My hair feels super silky when I straighten it, and actually stays straight for a couple of days between washings. Other stuff still left texture in my hair, and after a few hours my hair would start to show a lot of flyaways. I always had to restraighten it the next day, but not with the Smooth and Seal. If you have Ulta stores near you, sometimes they'll have a buy 2 get one free big sexy hair products. I usually go and buy all 3 of the smooth and seal and it lasts me well over a year

My daughter and all of her friends swear by their Chi straightening irons. They have all hair types and it works on all of them. As the earlier post said, they are expensive, but worth the price if you ask these girls. I know my daughter takes 1/2 as much time to do her hair as she did with her old iron and it stays smooth and shiny with very little product.
Good luck!

I've had good luck with Brazilian hair straightening. Here in southern Florida it is very humid so people with curly hair really struggle. My hair drives me crazy (very curly and dry) when it is growing out of the straightening process (lasts 3-5 months for me).

Some people say the process is toxic. I wouldn't do it for kids but I've heard of people letting their daughters do it. Definitely research it thoroughly, and seek advice, beforehand.

The downside is that it takes 5-6 hours (tortures me - hate to sit at the salon all day). It is less expensive than Japanese straightening (I usually pay about $200 - keeping in mind that it is a VERY labor intensive process).

Good luck.

My daughter LOVES her Chi iron. They can be pricey but you can get one at a reasonable price if you look around. We found her last one at Penney's Salon for $90. Her first one was from Ulta and it was $125 (SAME PRODUCT).

She also uses the Chi Heat Guard and loves it. Her hair looks great and we've had no issues. My hair is naturally straight as a board due to my Native American heritage but I use the heat guard before I dry my hiar.

You get what you pay for.......go with Chi

My best friend is an awesome hairstylist at high-end salon (nice perk for me and my budget), and she swears by a keratin straightener. It does not damage, but actually helps repair, the hair. There is no re-growth line, because it slowly fades out over time. This is not a straightener that will completely rid your hair of curl (I have naturally curly hair, and I still blow it out, but I don't have to use a flat iron unless I want it 70's style flat/straight.), but a blowdry will do the trick without sacrificing all of your volume. Previously, I couldn't cut my hair above the shoulder without looking like a mushroom on a humid Summer day; now I wear my hear in a chin-length bob, and I LOVE it! I can even go super-blonde (we change my haircolor a lot) without looking like I have straw hair. It can be expensive, but it is worth it if your hair is unruly like mine. Hope this helps!

I have a Chi hair straightener, and I've always said it's the one thing that I absolutely could not live without. It's around $100, but well worth it. I've had mine for at least 6 years with no problems, and it's still going strong.

The absolute best product I've ever used is pretty expensive but works SO well! It's about $25 and lasts me for about a month or two, depending on how often I wash my hair. I too have about shoulder length hair but very thick and wash my hair about twice a week, more if I have something important to attend. It's frederic fekkai ironless straightening balm. All I've used with it is a good brush and blow dryer, don't even need a flatiron/straightener afterward! And it's supposed to help your hair stay straighter in the long run too. If you buy it at sephora and don't like how it works they're really good about returns with a receipt, even if you used the product. Good luck!
