Best Carpet Cleaner for Puppy Pee?

Our puppy has turned the only carpeted room on our main floor into her "accident spot". This room also gets a lot of sunlight, so the pee is literally baking all day long. It's prety gross to say the least.

We have a great carpet cleaner, and I usually use Oxy Woolite, but it's not getting rid of the smell. Can anyone recommend something for pet odor?

We use 'Kids and Pets'. We get it at Walmart in the carpet cleaning section. I started to buy it because my husband is a printer and it removes printers ink! In reading the label, it also removes stains and oder from vomit, pee, poop, lipstick. The list is HUGE! We have used it on Cat pee and it removed the oder so well that the cat didn't even go back to the same spot which we all know they tend to do! The only thing it hasn't removed is grease and we use Simple Green for that. (automotive department)

We have had the same problem. We had not found anything that worked permantently. However, when you get to the point where you are replacing the carpet, there is a pad that goes under the carpet and is treated with enzynes........although we still have wrecks once in a while, there is no odor.
Sorry, probably not much help!

I use Nature's Miracle.

We also have a new puppy and I highly suggest crate training. The dogs are in their crate when we're not home, when we're sleeping, or (before they are reliably potty trained) when I can't watch them closely to avoid accidents. The first thing you do when you let them out of the crate is take them outside to go potty and PRAISE them like crazy when the go outside. They will not mess in their crate. Dogs won't go in their own cave. There is a ton of info on how to crate train out there, and how to get an appropriate sized crate. I love it. So much better (and cheaper) then ruining a carpet.

Violet was potty trained 3 weeks after we had her. She's 4 months old and hasn't had an accident on the carpet in months. We also use Potty Bells so she can ask to go out. http://www.howtodothings.com/pets-and-animals/a4691-how-t... I've never trained a dog to be potty trained before a few years ago, now we have two dogs and both are excellent at asking to go out.

Good luck!

Two words: Nature's Miracle. It's available at pet stores. We've always had dogs and cats at our house and I think NM is worth every penny.

Generally speaking, I put enough NM on the bad area to soak through both the carpet AND the pad. It doesn't smell terrific itself, but when it dries both its smell and the urine smell should be gone. If the urine smell persists, you may have missed a place. (I've done this for so many years that I bought a little black light to find those places.)

You don't say how old your puppy is, but I think that if she has a dedicated place on the carpet for answering the call of nature (as opposed to anywhere in the area), it might be good to block off that spot for a while if you can. Be sure to take your four-footed baby outside after meals, naps, and very active play - and any other time you know she'll have the urge. Puppies are high on the brainlessness-and-distractability scale - even when they DO learn where to go, they just forget.

Not sure about the odor, but I like Spot Shot... it's an orange container with a blue top. Works miracles for kid messes too!

On a side note, go to petsmart and get a 'pee stick'. You put it in the ground outside where you'd like your dog to go... it released pheromones which attracts the dog to it... whenever you let puppy out to piddle, he'll look forward to going in his new spot, and before you know it, it's pure habit and the accidents will stop!! Best wishes!

You definitely want to go with the cleaners made specifically for dog pee because not only do they get rid of the smell, but the dogs stop peeing in the same spot over and over again. Our new dog pee'd on the same rug for five days but I used NM (I think) and there's no trace of anything now.
The thing to do first though is to get an old towel and blot as much of the pee as you can out of the carpet.
If it pees on a runner or a rug, make sure to check on the underside and blot there too.

We have the Spot Bot - it is a little hand held carpet cleaner. It works great. In Walmart or Target, go to the carpet cleaning isle...they have cleaners made especially for pet odors.

Yet another vote for Nature's Miracle!

Incidentally, it also works miraculously with (kid or pet) vomit.

Corn starch. Pour a pile on it when it's still wet, and if it's not wet spray it down with water and the pour on the corn starch. Then once it's dry we would vacuum it up. We used to bread poodles and well they defiantly made puddles. We did this on every spot and never had a problem with it.
Although recently my son pooped on the floor and made a horrible brown mess. What I did is take oxyclean and some Rockin Green detergent (BEST CLEANER EVER. It says detergent but should say all purpose cleaner) made a past, let it sit overnight wet it back down every once in a while and then just wiped it up and there was no stain at all and the carpet looked amazing!! I am thinking I need to get the rest of the carpet cleaned just to match that spot.

We have tried every product on the market for our dog peeing in the house - she's older and has incontinence issues. The only one that seems to get rid of the smell is Nature's Miracle which you can get at any Pet Store. You have to get a cleaner that has enzymes in it that "eats" the bacteria.

Try soaking the area in water then sucking it up with the shampooer, do this at least 3 times to dilute the urine. Then use any shampoo with a pet odor control. Then there is this spray to stop pets from urinating on the carpet, that you can buy that dogs don't like the smell of and spray the carpet so he won't want to go on the carpet. If you notice when they go outside they smell the spot before they pee and this stuff keeps them from wanting to pee where they smell it.

When we first got our kittens, I asked the service that professionally cleans my carpets. He suggested Biokleen's BAC-OUT. It is a natural, non-toxic biodegradable stain and odor eliminator. I got it at the Jewel store.

I vote for Nature's miracle too. Not sure if you are supposed to or not, but I have put it in our carpet cleaner instead of soap after spot cleaning the area with Nature's miracle. Most of the pet enzyme cleaners will probably work, you just want to make sure it has an enzyme cleaner.

Have fun with your puppy!

And another one, Nature's Miracle. You have to be generous with it or puppy will pee there again and again if scent is not completely gone. Pet Smart usually has a big bottle on special with the PetPerks card.

My dog has peed on our carpet in the same spot so many times! I plan to try NM but i read to use white vinegar and water to wet the area, then sprinkle baking soda on and let it dry then vacuum. I may try that first since i have that stuff here. It is supposed to get the smell out.

--Throughly rinse out the previous cleaner
--blot (in the case of the original spot)- to get some of the wetness
--grab the KIDS 'N PETS and soak to heck out of it
-- done

All gone!

For future ---(hopefully not- :)
This cleaner works best when it's the first thing you use
(previous chemicals can prevent it from working as well)

Great for those other messy critters too (kids)!

I use a mixture of 2 parts isopropyl alcohol to 8 parts water and a dash of dish soap. I keep it mixed in a spray bottle and it works better than any store bought product I have tried. Spray the area, let it sit a couple of seconds, and than blot up, and repeat until spot is gone. The odor is completely lifted along with the strain.

Run to Menards/HomeDepot/Loews and pick up a bottle (comes in spray and gallon) called Dep for urine. Use it on the spot and the scent will be gone. Works wonderful.
