Before I Do Something Stupid....

Hi all,

I have a quick question, I'm trying to be more positive in my life and I've realized that all my lists I constantly start on random pieces of paper aren't working for me. So, I thought, why not write my goals, inspirations, thoughts etc... on my bathroom mirror, it is quite large and wouldn't leave me w/o "me" space. BUT, I wanted to write on my mirror with dry erase marker so I could erase and change as I needed or felt like it. Before I do this, will dry erase marker "stain" my mirror or run with the shower humidity onto my travertine countertops?? I really don't want to ruin anything all for the sake of a .99 cent dry-erase marker. I know lame question, but my countertops and mirror weren't exactly cheap:)

Thanks!

What can I do next?

Post-Its are inexpensive and come in a variety of colors and larger sizes.
Some even have cute graphics on them.
No clean up necessary.

I have been trying to stay motivated to lose weight after having my daughter so I keep a running tally of how many pounds I've lost and how many weeks I've been trying on my bathroom mirror. It has been the best motivational tool I've ever used. I use a dry erase marker that wipes off easily with a windex wipe and it never runs. I see it often and am always excited to see the tally getting bigger. So far I've lost 22 pounds! If you are still worried about using the dry erase marker you could always do a small test spot in the corner. I say go for it and kudos to you for wanting to be more positive!

Dry erase won't do anything to the mirrors, although it could run with the shower humidity. I don't know for sure. And, sorry to say, I have no idea on the countertops!

You could maybe use "bathtub" crayons? It wipes off easily with water but also stays put. I know Crayola makes some and another brand is called Alex. Theirs are called "Rub a Dub Draw in the Tub". Just a thought!

How about post it notes? Easily added, removed...and no way it is going to ruin your mirror...AND you don't have that nasty scent of the dry erase markers to deal with? I would think that would be a much better solution for you!!! You can even get different colored notes...one for "to do " lists one for goals...etc etc.

Do you have room on your countertop for a chalkboard with a pretty frame? You could use different colors of chalk and make it look very nice.

I have used dry erase, Sharpies, soap, lipstick, etc. I now print the bible verse, goal, or whatever on paper and tape it to the mirror---I call this MIRROR THERAPY (HAHAHA)! It is a great way to stay reminded each morning of your priorities and inspirations.

What about, getting yourself a cute notebook, and use that as your "inspiration" journal?
Write anything in it, draw in it what makes you happy, and note things/reminders to yourself in it?
That way, it is all 'organized' and in one place, and your special notebook for only that.
To refer to daily.
And you can carry it around etc.
Better than doing it on random pieces of paper.

Window markers or window crayons.

I wouldn't risk it! Then you will be irritated if something does get ruined and your whole plan of being positive is out the window!

Try typing them up and putting them as your wallpaper on your computer.

Or print them out and hang them on the wall next to the mirror.

Good luck!

I use them all the time. I buy mine at Staples and use them on the dry erase boards and the mirror alike. You can either wipe them off with a paper towel or use Windex. I find that generic brands of window cleaner don't work near as well for much of anything.

I also use a dry bar of soap if I am in a hurry and can't find a dry erase marker.

Not in my experience. My forgetful brother in law does this almost daily to remind himself of things. In the 19 years, two apartments, and four houses he has lived in, it's never ruined a mirror. My In-laws also let my kids do this at their house (Much to my dismay). Make sure if your kids see you, they know you are using a special marker. Otherwise, you may be googling how to remove sharpie marker off the mirror...which I have had to do. :)

Crayola brand (only brand we've found that works) bathtub crayons are great on mirrors too, don't run off with humidity and wipe off easily. We use them all the time on our bathroom mirror for reminders or love notes or encouragements. We just did a remodel and the bathroom mirror was in storage - they pulled it out of storage with a reminder to my husband to brush the dog's teeth still there! LOL! The mirror is now re-installed and clean, ready for more messages.

It likely won't run with humidity--I used dry erase markers on plastic sheets to keep track of students' learning when I taught swimming lesson and they occasionally got wet bet didn't run. I've used dry erase on mirrors before and had no problems. If you leave it on for a long period, it may get hard to wipe off, but if you go over the old ink with the dry erase marker it should wipe off easily.

It will be fine. I use a perminate black sharpee it comes off with Windex or rubbing alcohol. And it doesn't run from the humidity from the shower :)

Whether or not dry-erase markers will run with humidity, the ones I've smelled are so toxic I have to leave the room instantly. Consider using a crayon or black wax pencil, which can write on any slick surface. They can be cleaned off glass pretty easily.

Wishing you great results with your positive thinking!

How about using the note feature on your phone?

Not sure, doesn't seem like it would hurt it, but I would worry it would run in humidity from the shower.

Here's another idea to throw out. How about buying chalk paint and painting a closet door or back of a door, even inside of a door.
