Hi, I'm wondering if any of you moms have used Badger sunscreen. I've heard it's great. I've been using California Baby but find that it's super greasy. Have any of you used Badger and CA Baby...how do they compare? Thanks!

I've used both Badger and CA Baby and find them both to be greasy. Badger was a little harder to rub in as well, but to be honest, anything topical that doesn't contain as many of the carcinogenic chemicals is not going to be smooth and creamy and easy to apply (unfortunately). Having said that, and having tried MANY sunscreens (and not wanting to use any of the brands that have the bad chemicals in them), I've been sticking with Badger. I also use UV swimshirts for my kids so that I don't have to use as much of the topical stuff. Plus they love the idea of not having to stop their playtime to apply and reapply sunscreen and I love the idea that I've just covered a large portion of their skin and don't have to worry if I 'missed a spot' (like what can happen with sunscreen). I share this advice as a mom, but also as woman who lost her husband to skin cancer when he was 32 and also as a business owner, as I started a company called UV Skinz after my husband died. We carry a great selection of swim shirts, hats and UV clothing. I don't want to use this forum to promote my business (as I come to mamapedia for parenting answers with my own five kids!) but also felt compelled to share there are more options out there than topical sunscreen applied ever couple of hours.

(Also, as a side note, May is coined Skin Cancer Awareness month and each May we have a campaign where we give away a free baby skinz swim shirt with each order in hopes it will help raise awareness about the need for sun protection on precious babies skin. We hope the swim shirt can be passed on to a baby-in-need (whether it be your own baby or a neighbor's baby. etc.) Again, I don't mean to be 'selling' anything on this forum, but this is a subject I am highly passionate about.

Good luck to you.

I'd like to recommend a terrific site for researching the safety of cosmetic products for babies and adults alike:

www.cosmeticsdatabase.com

Both Badger and California Baby score as low hazard, but some of Coppertone's products contain hazardous ingredients and you may want to avoid them!

On this site all the ingredients are broken down and products are rated according to safety. Cosmetics are not regulated by the government. I'd check here first before putting anything on my (or my baby's) skin.

I LOVE Badger sunscreen. I've been using it on my son since he was an infant and he has never had a sunburn (despite being white as snow and in living in the tropics for a quarter of his first two years). I love the smell (and I am sensitive to strong smells) and the consistency seems fine to me. I have never tried California Baby.

We used Badger and I found it VERY greasy, and hard to rub in, and had a very strong fragrance. I never used California baby, but they might be about the same as far as greasiness. I've switched to Blue Lizard now and like it a lot more. No scent, and not as greasy.

I have used both but Badger is SOOO much better!!! I love Badger and that is all that our whole family uses. I should also mention that Badger recently re-did their formula and it is much less greasy, easier to rub in and less "whiteness".

Coppertone baby stuff- the one in the pink bottle--is the best. Does not sting eyes, applies easily without being greesy--works great
