Bad U/S?

I'll say the same as the rest of them, which is try not to worry to much. The ultrasounds are hard to get a good look at things, and with having twins, its even harder. The babies aren't holding still, and with twins, thats that much more blocking a good look. I worked at a doctors office a few years ago, the doctor suspected twins, ordered an ultrasound, only said a single baby, he ordered another one a month later, still, only one baby. She was getting to big, to fast and he was sure he was hearing a second heartbeat, so he sent her to another hospital, and she was having twins. I don't have alot of faith in ultrasounds. But even if your baby does have a birthdefect, you'll still love him/her. They adjust fine, because they dont' know any differnt. Good luck:)Sue

Congrats on the babies! Im sure it's hard to do, but try to put some perspective behind your thinking. There is an 'art' to being a good U/S tech. Remembering that an U/S is only a 2D image and that a bad angle can present a picture that looks 'alien' at best, your doc could be looking at any number of things that would be considered normal. Since he/she wasn't there to adjust the positioning and get a better look, I think he is right to order a repeat and wait to make a diagnosis. I know that doesn't help you to not worry! Think about this; how many times to U/S show us a boy/gir...only to be born the opposite?!?! They are very limited in accuracy, see if you can get a 3D U/S instead to be sure. And one last thought...if your baby does have some sort of trouble with his/her hand...there is nothing you can do by worrying about it, except put undue stress on yourself and your pregnancy! Pray for peace and stay positive!

Hi J., Try not to worry. I know it is easier said than done! I went in for an extra ultra sound at around 7 months. The Dr. came in and was looking at my daughters foot. He said there was a possibility of a club foot on her left leg! But he said it may not be too it may be the way the baby is positioned. My daughter was born in January and had totally normal feet! So you just wont know for sure until the baby is born OR if they get a better ultrasound next time. Like the woman before me said there is really nothting you can do either way but its hard not to worry. Hang in there:) J.

I have to agree with one of the other responses that worrying won't change anything and will just stress you out. When I was preganant my bloodwork came abck with a high possibility of Downs Syndrome. I opted to not have the amnio (too risky in my opinion) and just prepare myself for that possibility. It helped me to relax about the whole thing. He did not end up having Downs, but I felt prepared and comfortable with the idea of it so I could just focus on the excitement of his arrival, not scared or shocked. Trying to think of it in that way may help. Either way, I am sure that your babies will be perfect for you.

When I was pregnant with my first child and had my first ultra-sound they didn't like the shape of her head and there was two flat spots near her temples. We had been told that we had to go to the hospital in the next 24 hours to get a more advanced ultra-sound done to make sure there was nothing wrong. I was frantic! Fortunately there was absolutely nothing wrong and if someone had taken a minute to look at her father, they would have see that his head was shaped the very same way.

With my second baby, I had the usual ultrasound at 21 weeks. It was done at a high risk ob office because of earlier complications. The ultrasound tech was talking us through it and all of sudden, she paused. She was checking for down syndrome markers and said the kidneys were too big. (don't be cautious about freaking out the pregnant woman or anything!) After a two hour wait, the doctor came in an did the ultrasound himself and said the kidneys were no longer oversized...the baby must have peed.

My sis-in-law also had to go in for ultrasounds every two weeks with her third baby because something wasn't right (I don't remember what). He is a perfectly healthy four year old!

Don't let those doctors freak you out! Sometimes they are overly cautious because they are afraid they will be sued over something.
When I was pregnant with baby #4 they thought the heartbeat sounded wrong (it was too fast and there was an extra beat) so I ended up having stress tests every week and ultra sounds every two weeks, well because I was having so many ultra sounds they then found problems with the babys kidneys too. They even went so far as to run tests on his kidneys until he was about 2 years old (they would run dye thru them and take more ultra sounds) turns out everything was fine! He is a healthy 4 1/2 year old now absolutely no health issues ever! Alot of tests on the poor guy tho. I guess they figure better safe than sorry! The urologist finally admitted to us he was a "victim of technology" Hope this helps to put your mind at ease!

My first son was born premature so with my second they did lots of extra ultrasounds just to be sure. At the first one they said they could not get a good read on the heart or neck and that he may have downs. I was STRESSED! Luckly I talked to my doctor and he ordered another test and this time he looked perfect. I know it is impossible to worry until you have your next test but try not to. I stressed over nothing. My son is a perfectly healthy 4 year old and has been since day one.
