It's been 4 days. What can I do to help him? His diarrhea is so bad that I've run multiple "sanitary" loads in my washer. He won't eat. Last night he even threw up (again b/c this is how it all started on Friday - 2 throw ups). He does drink his gatorade and pedialite; doctors orders. I just feel so bad for him that I want to cry. I know about the BRAT diet but he won't eat... help...

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I did take him to the doctor yesterday and they told me not to worry about his refusal to eat. He's not dehydrated and LOVES to drink his pedialite. This morning he even ate 1/4 of a mashed up banana.

just ride the ride, my son had GI tract infections (what it sounds like to me) ALL the time it was craziness. My dr told me that the BRAT diet vs going back to regular food there has been no proven reults for a difference so we were just smart about going with the more mild choices but did not focus on BRAT diet per sey. I did however double diaper some days, his actual size and then the next size up over that. Really, I would suggest to give frequent baking soda baths to keep tushy smooth and clean and should a rash appear my suggestion is to use Mylanta (unflavored) apply to area with cotton then put cream/vaseline whatever you have over the mylanta to get rid of the rash quickly. We had these nearly once every two months sometimes more often (immune issue) so really all you can do is ride it out and keep baby hydrated and with a clean comfy tushie.

I don't know how old "baby" is, but if I were you, I would definitely call the doc again and/or head to the ER. 4 days of bad diarrhea, refusal to eat, throwing up, all with no end in sight would worry the heck out of me.

I think he needs to be seen by a doctor.

Good luck. Hope the little guy feels better soon!

Have you called the doctor again or just posted here? He may be dehydrating, especially if he is now throwing up as well as having diarrhea! He may need to be rehydrated by IV if it continues. See the doctor, don't wait for online replies.

If he is drinking well that is good. He obviously does not feel hungry with whatever the stomach virus is. My youngest daughter went through this when she was 10 months old. We struggled for a little over a week and then someone recommended giving her fennel tea. I found some in the health food store. I made a big pot of it and would fill her cup 3/4 with the tea and 1/4 with apple juice. After one day she was feeling much better and began eating a little the next day. The diarrhea was gone in 2 days. Now, whenever my children have an upset stomach - even vomitting - I make them fennel tea.
