Baby Gift for Teacher

Hi girls,
Looking for your opinions. My son's kindergarten teacher is due to have a baby next month and the room mom's are having a little surprise party for her (she thinks it's an early end of the year party with the kids since she will be gone). We are all bringing books for the baby, but I would also like to bring another "shower" type gift. Should I go practical diapers, wipes kind of thing. Or should I pick some of the small things off her registery?

What can I do next?

Thank you so much for all your ideas. I think you all are right that she will appreciate any of it, and I will remember all your ideas to pass on to others. Thanks girls!

That is so nice of you! My vote is practical. Wipes will always get used. When I had my fisrt child I got way to many size 1 diapers. So I vote wipes. My co workers got me a whole wagon full of wipes. Maybe you can make it a little more cute my puting the wipes in some kind of toy for something! Also, when I was teaching my kids made me a cute blanket. One the one side it had all the handprints of the children in the class and on the other it was a cute construction print! One of the grandmothers in the class did the sewing. I still love looking at the blanket with my boys and remembering all my old students! Good Luck.

I vote for practical. Here is a couple of ideas of practical but helpful things :good therometer, baby tylenol, baby motrin, cute kid bandaids, diaper cream, good pair of twizzers, bulb suction, neosporin, boo boo bunnies, baby sunscreen, first toothbrush, cheerios type finger food, baby wash, baby cereal. Stick with brand names, check expiration dates and get gift receipts for everything in case she doesn't use the same brands etc. As we all know these items add up quickly.

Gift certificate to a local bookstore, Target or wherever she is registered at to get those items she still needs/wants.

Very thoughtful of you to do something for the teacher! Anything you get, I'm sure will be appreciated, although, my first thought is to do more of a shower-type gift. I think it's just more fun to watch her open that, then diapers and wipes.

Just a thought....are you thinking of doing some kind of "classroom' keepsake, like a cute framed classroom picture or a small, collage-type frame or small picture album with some nice candid shots? Someone with a nice digital camera could take a few pictures, easily, maybe even from a few of the holiday parties and celebrations, throughout the year. It will just always be something she'll remember where she spent those last few months before becoming a mom.

Whatever you do, the sentiment is very nice and thoughtful!

When I was teaching my students made the best book for me and the baby. Each child was given a "page" and they each gave my daughter some advice for life. It was so cute. My daughter is now 8, and she still loves to read it! Since the students are just in Kindergarten, I would send the page home and have paretns.

Diapers and babywipes are always a major plus as babies go through them so fast. However, picking small things from the baby registry also works out since it's something that you know for sure the expecting parents would like. Either way it's real nice of you to get her something from your familys behalf.

When I had my daughter my class gave me an outfit and a few small toys. It was really sweet. I took pictures of her wearing the outfit and emailed them to the class. They loved it! I think she'll love whatever you decide to do. I even think a lil' something just for mommy would be nice too. Like a gift certificate to get her nails done, a gift of "dinners by design," or a basket of very "girlie" things to help her remember she's important too. I would have loved any of those things! (Any new mom would right?)

Anything would be appreciated. One of the best gifts I got was a "to go" package. It had stuff for the baby bag, wipes to put in there, the disposable changing pads, those blue bags for diapers, some hand cream...you get the picture.

How nice for all of you to arrange someting like that!

You guys are great! How sweet of you. I'm sure either will be appreciated. Diapers and wipes are a necessity and anything off her registry you KNOW she wants.

The only thought I have with diapers is that some moms have favorite brands (I am anti generic for newborns), so you may consider something else if you don't want to ask her (might ruin the surprise part).

Good luck!

Thoughtfulness is sweet, so you really can't go wrong. When I was pg I worked at two schools. One gave me a shower and used practical items, wrapped in tissue, to decorate the tables...i.e. diaper wipes, baby wash, ointment, thermometer ~~all the things you don't put on a registry. They had a laundry basket to put it in. I didn't even know I would need some of it, and it was greatly appreciated. The other class gave board books with inscriptions and my daughter loved reading them. Goodluck!
