Avoid Dr. Berman @ Arrowhead Pediatrics

Dr. Berman at Arrowhead Pediatrics was shamefully rude to me today. Their on call nurses are good but that is the only virtue of this clinic. After what happened today we will never go back. I did not immunize my daughter when she was just born for fear of vaccine injury. Today she got her first shot (DTaP) at 8 1/2 months. Dr. Berman came into the room and immediately began verbally attacking me for my reluctance to vaccinate my daughter as a newborn and for not getting all of her vaccines at once. I could not get a word in edgewise to defend my educated and well-researched decision. He compared vaccine critics to Nazis, calling them liars, and asked me if I would treat pneumonia with herbs and spices. He went so far as to say the words "pissed off" in front of my two young children. I could not even ask him to watch his mouth before he interrupted me and began accusing and ridiculing me again. He barked orders at me about how to raise my children and would not listen to the few words I actually managed to squeeze in. I maintained my composure and did nothing to instigate this verbal onslaught. All I can say is that the man has issues....

Thank you for your information on Dr. Berman, and I'm sorry that you had to go through his tirade. I have a 5 year old son and have always taken him to see Dr. David Kleiner at Pediatrix, 23425 North 39th Drive South, Glendale, Arizona. It's near the waterpark on Pinnacle Peak. I never allowed my son to get all of his vaccines pursuant to the required time table, and Dr. Kleiner and/or Pediatrix never made me feel bad about my decision or questioned my decision. In fact, my son will be six in December, and because he started Kindergarten last month, he just now got the last of his shots. Even when Pediatrix tried to give my son six of his shots together, I would not allow this and they just had me set up another appointment. I hope you have found a new caring pediatrician, and if not, you may want to check into Pediatrix as they have a few clinics (one right off the I-17 at Bell, I believe).

I went there and had the same experience. I held off immunizing Amber untill she was 2. I had also done my research, and if I wasn't confident in my decision, and my parenting abilities I think I would have cried. Instead I was just ticked off! You're not alone!

I agree that you made the right decision to not go back to him. When you work in health care you have to be open to your patients decision, even if you don't like them. You were not doing anything to harm your child.
We have been seeing Dr's Carl Irwin and Pamela Bingham at Northwest Clinic for Children for years and LOVE them both.
I think there are referral to them on this site.
You might consider filing a complaint with the Board of Medical Examiners. You can find info at AZMD.gov

hi C.,

sorry to hear about your bad experience at the pediatricians office. if you're looking for another doctor, i would highly recommend Dr. Carl Irwin at Northwest Pediatrics for kids at 32nd Drive in Phoenix. He's really nice and actually talks to you and not down at you. Let me know if you want his number.
