Armour Thyroid Vs. Synthroid

Anyone notice a big difference between how they felt when on Synthroid vs Armour Thyroid? I'd been on levothyroxine forever, and it wasn't relieving symptoms. I switched to armour years ago, but it went on backorder, and I was put on synthroid. Now, I can't remember if there was a big difference between the synthetic vs the natural. I still have no energy, hair's falling out, really difficult time losing weight, cold a lot....I know that's what it is, but my blood levels are coming back normal. Synthroid isn't working because I feel crappy. I found out that Armour is no longer on backorder, so I requested a prescription. My doctors office warned me that the FDA is no longer recognizing Armour, and therefore no regulation. Thoughts???

What can I do next?

Total nonsense and complete bullsh*t.
Your doctor is just trying to scare you off using Armor Thyroid - some doctors refuse to work with it (because it makes THEM feel comfortable having you on Synthroid regardless of how uncomfortable the patient is).
Plus Synthroid is WAY more expensive and I swear I think some doctors are getting a kickback on it, but that's just my personal theory.
I was on Synthroid for roughly 6 years. The tests said my TSH was at the high end of normal but I had symptoms that would not go away.
Finally I spoke with my doctor (who was a GREAT doctor) and said the low end of 'normal' was just as valid as the high end of the range and I wanted to see if Armour Thyroid made a difference (Synthroid is all T4 where Armout Thyroid has T4 AND T3).
We worked to find my optimal dosage and it turns out I feel best when I'm kept right on the cusp of being hyperthyroid.
I don't convert T4 to T3 well, so Armour Thyroid is perfect for me.
If your doctor will not work with you - fire him.
When we moved I had to interview 5 doctors before I found a good one, but it was well worth it.
I've been on Armour Thyroid for 11 years now and except for when there was a production problem and it was on back order, I've never felt better.

I pm'd you a little bit of info, but maybe go and see a homeopathic dr. My endo that I had before, was horrible. She would always tell me that my levels were normal and so my weight gain was because I eat too much (which is not true and I work out). I had asked her to switch me, and she said no and that she doesn't like the natural products because then I have to be more closely watched to check my levels more often. I now go to a homeopathic dr. and she checked everything. My T3 was way off, and my adrenals were also off. She put me on nature throid since armour did make a slight change in the way they make it and she had patients that it did not work well for them anymore. I am feeling much better now. I am still a little tired but on my last blood work found out that I am VERY low in vit. D, so I have now started taking vit. D supplements about a week ago and I am feeling slightly better, although it could take a bit longer to get it working all the way.
Maybe also look into nature throid and see a homeopathic dr. I hope you feel better soon!

Or, maybe your dose still isn't high enough. What value of "normal" is your TSH? You can still be low, in the "normal" range.

I have also heard that doctors get a kickback from synthroid. My daughter is on synthroid and she has gained a lot of weight. I took Armour for a long time and felt the best I ever did.
