Hi, I just found out that AOL offers a free service for customers. I've been paying $11.99 for the past 12 years thinking that aol was not free. Has anyone else experienced this and if so, what steps did you take to get your money back?

Thanks!

What can I do next?

you wont be able to get your money back, but definitely call and cancel them. As long as you have a highspeed connection through dsl or cable AOL is free. Its only been free for about 3 years tho, if that makes you feel any better. You might be able to dicker with them on it, but you will probably be talking to someone from INDIA so good luck.

I am sure there is some small difference that they claim to justify the cost to the one plan versus the other, chances are they will not refund any of your money, but you can try calling and talking to management.

Unfortunately, you probably won't get any money back. The day they announced it was now free was the day I called and canceled my paying account. That was in 2006. I have never once needed them for customer service since doing so. I never needed them when I paid either. All you can do now is move forward and cancel your paid account.

Aol has a free service, however, they will not assist you if you need help. If you are a paid customer they will walk you through what you need. My guess is that they will not refund you. Let us know if you find a way.

You will NEVER get your money back.
And good luck getting them to STOP charging you!

We tried for a year to get them to cancel and stop charging us with no luck. We finally called the credit card company and asked them if they could stop accepting the charges and was told no. So we just cancelled the credit card and closed it!

I seriously doubt you can get your money back. Their customer service is one of the worst I've ever delt with.

I had AOL as my ISP. When I switched and canceled my service on the 24th of the month, they billed me on the 25th for the next months service. They told me that the charge had already been put through and I should have known that and canceled earlier in the month.

I filed a complaint with my credit card company and AOL gave them false information so I could get the charge reversed.

I use Yahoo mail and pay 20 a year for email without ads. Are you seeing ads on your paid aol? Still $11.99 is a lot for just service without ads. I agree with the others, cancel your account with aol.
