Hi! I am just wondering if anyone did anything special when their kiddos lost their first tooth? My 5yo daughter just discovered tonight that one of hers is loose - WE were so excited! What did ya'll do to make it a big deal??? I have seen the "tooth pillows" and stuff... also how much did everyone leave? My aunt said $5!!!! I always got some change - times have changed I guess - LOL! Any input is appreciated!!!

So What Happened?

Oh, thank you everyone for all the great ideas and responses! She actually lost it this morning - then accidently swallowed it with her bite of waffles - LOL!!! Can you believe that? She was so upset becasue she thought the tooth fairy wasn't going to come.

We are definitely doing the fairy dust idea and are still deciding on the dollar amount (I have a 4yo coming up behind her)... we are also taking her picture for her scrpbook - thanks again!!!!!!!!

Each child has a tooth fairy pillow. My daughter has the one that I had as a child. They each received $2 for the first tooth and each tooth after.

I know this is late, but I had to respond. The tooth fairy doesn't come to our house (despite my husband's objections). My family has another tradition... the leprechaun. With my son's first tooth (fell out at my mother-in-law's while I was moving us to Fort Worth), my husband put $5 under his pillow. When the next tooth fell out 3 days later, the leprechaun brought 3 gold coins ($1 gold coins). He won't spend the gold coins.

The leprechaun is a tradition in my family that goes back 4 generations. I just thought I'd share this- obviously as an afterthought, but I never knew about tooth fairies until I was older! Erin Go Bragh!!! (Ireland Forever)

Irish in my core- Maiden Name is Fitzgerald.... and I have the red hair, green eyes, and freckles to prove it!!!!! HA!

I'm sure I'm the minority but we give $20 for the first tooth and then they get to go to Toys R Us to spend their tooth fairy money. Our 5 year old son just recently lost his first tooth and has 3 more that are loose. He won't get $20 per tooth but he will be happy with whatever he gets.

Whatever you decide to do, remember two things. Your daughter will be comparing what she gets with what her friends get, if that matters to you. Also, whatever you do at first, you will need to keep it up (except for a "first tooth" bonus), and with 2 kids may get to be more than you expected.

Regardless, our tooth fairy got a lot more admiration when she left fairy dust (really just glitter) on my daughter's bed. My son was glad he didn't get that girly stuff.

At McKinney Trades Days there is a lady that sells Tooth Fairy Box's. It is a litle box with a note to the tooth fairy and a little note from the tooth fairy. There are really cute. Little bag for the tooth, cute little box, ect.

My daughter's first lost tooth also earned her $5 and a new Barbie electric toothbrush. Ok, every tooth got her $5, I admit I enjoyed spoiling her! I always took the money and rolled it up and put a pretty ribbon around it like a scroll. Some of my friends did the fairy dust by the window sill and the tooth pillows so they'd be easier to get to. I never had a problem because we put the tooth
in a ziploc bag so it was easy to reach under her pillow and it would slide easily across the sheet.

We gave $20 for the first and she had option to save the money or go to Toys R Us, Disney Store, etc. After the first one, we usually gave $10 and a trip to the store. Yes, we enjoyed spoiling our only child and she is doing just fine at 12 now. She still has daddy wrapped around her finger!

Congrats!! Susan
