Anyone Taking Adipex?

I have struggled with my weight for some time now. My daughters pediatrician (who was also my pediatrician growing up) prescribed me Adipex. He gave me a 3 months worth. I guess I have been taking it for about a month and not really seeing any results. It does give me energy and cuts my appetite tremendously. I guess I had my hopes up that it would work fast, but it hasn't. Do you think it is different for each person?

What can I do next?

I just started taking Adipex about a week ago. So far, I've lost about 5 pounds. It just doesn't make me hungry. I have noticed that I am experiencing some shortness of breath but it's not enough to make me stop taking it. Have you had any problems like that?

I've taken that drug and lost abot 12lbs. in a month but then it stopped working. Honestly the only way to lose and keep it off is to eat better and excersise. But I'm sure you knew that already we all do it's just hard. Those drugs are not good for you. A lifestyle change is the best thing you can do for yourself and your baby. I have had sucess with Weight Watchers the weight loss is slower but it STAYS OFF!! Good luck.

Hi S.,

I take phentermine, which is the generic of Adipex I believe. When I originally started taking it, the first 4 weeks or so, I didn't notice alot of weight loss.
But I was like you, I had tons of energy and not much appetite. Then in the next 8 weeks, the weight dropped like crazy. In all, within about 4 months, I lost 25 pounds.
My best advice to you is to drink LOTS of water. I notice that if I slow down on drinking the water, I feel bad and the weight loss stops.
Hope this helps a little.
Good luck to you!!!

Ive been on adipex myself once for the same reason and all it did was give me energy and cut appetite and the only way that you'll lose any weight is to continuiously take the pres. and not without also exercising until u LOSE weight but after a period of use u have to take more and more to get the affect of it. Doctors pres. it to help u get started but its not for long term use.Not to mention that if you do lose any weight as soon as u stop the pres. you are more likely to gain it back.I know this is not what u want to hear but I'm also in the same boat as well as alot of other women and the only way to really lose weight and keep it off is to work hard and change ur eating habits. I know its hard....Im failing at it myself..I go good for a few months and get discouraged and stop. Try signing up for a group thing like curves. Ive heard alot of women say it works. But truthfully u could also do it all by yourself with no money out of pocket. Its just a matter if doing more active things and eating things that dont contain alot of sugar and watch out for the drinks. We consume alot of calories just in drinking alone. Since ur on the pres. I say make the most of it...dont just rely on the adipex to burn ur fat off b.c it makes u clean more. Use that energy to exercise and find something that gets u up and sweating. My main problem is not enough activeness in my life..food doesnt harm me that bad..I can eat like a cow and not gain...just cant lose. I use to be 125 at most then I got preg with my first son and we had to live with my husbands grandmother almost my entire preg. and I have no outlet u exercise so all I did was gain. I wont disclose my weight now but its obviously no where near 125. Anyway gl and as long as u have even a little hope that a medication is going to give u what u want u wont get anywhere. Just have to put yourself in that mental place where its neccessary and a daily MUST in working out and fighting off that bad food for a while. Again, GL.

I was on them after I had my daughter and lost 30 pounds.. but after I got off of them I gained about 20 back so now I just started to take them again. To me they work great but I did do some excerise with them... I did pilates ( try to make it fun.... invite a friend over and do the excerise together... I even got my husband doing pilates with me but he didn/t lose any weight... lol) And my main problem is when I do eat I eat junk food so it's kinda hard to keep the weight offwhen u stop. I would give it a couple more weeks u should notice something soon. good luck

Our bodies are designed to go into starvation mode when our diet is drastically cut. This means that when we cut calories too much, our body ends up storing all the fat we're trying to lose! Fad diets, pills, and starvation does not work for the long haul. Sure, you'll be a size six for a few months, but then you'll gain the weight back (and usually more) very quickly.

I think instead of doing the easy thing, learn how to eat the right way, exercise, and deal with the fact that our bodies will do what our genes decide. Have you checked into Weight Watchers or eDiet? Knowledge, exercise, and learning to deal with the fact we cannot look like Nicole Kidman is the key. Starvation and speed will just mess up your body in an unhealthy way, which leads to bone mass loss, organ damage, and mental problems.

Learn to eat properly and exercise and throw those pills away! Please don't pull a Hollywood diet or you'll just regret it.

Good luck! I'm learning what I preach, just so you know. I'm about 25 pounds overweight, I feel like crud because all I eat is junk, and I don't exercise. Guess what my new year resolution is. :)
