Anyone Know How Mail Forwarding Works?

I just moved to a new address. I ordered something online and I forgot to change my shipping address. It sent to my old address and has already been delivered. I have forwarded my mail on the usps website before we moved. Will the package be sent straight to my new address with the mail forwarding, or do I need to make a phone call to my old address. It was delivered 2 days ago... and I live right around the corner from my old address.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I tracked it online and it said it was delivered to the old address. I wasn't sure if they would automatically see that we had moved and foward it to our new address.

Anything sent through the Post office can be forwarded up to new addresses...or you need to call and switch stuff...They wont forward Magazines or catalogs.

Some Post offices will only allow for things to be forwarded for like a month or two and then they will lift it. So make sure you get everything switched quickly.

How was the package sent?

If it came USPS it should forward automatically since you changed your address (but it might also depend when you new address became effective)

If it came UPS or FedEx you probably have to contact them to get it forwarded to you since they are different that the USPS.

I'd check with the Post Office. Is there tracking on the package? If there is, you might be able to find out online. Glad you didn't move across the country!

I would call UPS and ask them, have your tracking # available. Then take your next action from there.

It would only be forwarded if it was sent through the post office.

Why not just go back there and ask the people if they got your package?

it should have been delivered to your new address...

talk to the post office and find out what is going on...it should've been seamless...unless they delivered it via FEDEX or UPS - then you'll have to get to your old address or contact the people there now and ask them to forward it to you..

GOOD LUCK!!
