Anyone Have Humana Insurance?

My husband's employer just announced yesterday that they are switching from BCBS to Humana.

Thoughts? Is this a good thing for us, or just good for the employer's bottom line?

Our costs are "only" rising 5.7%, which is not terrible relative to others' increases.

What can I do next?

My GF has it and hasn't really complained about it. We don't have it personally so I can't comment.

My GF has said that it's more like an HMO than a PPO and equals it to Kaiser...and I never really had a problem with Kaiser...only reason we switched from Kaiser was because at the time the nearest hospital was 1.5 miles away and Kaiser was not accepted there and the Kaiser doctors didn't have privileges there...

Would you like me to call her for more specifics? She's here in VA with me so I don't know if it's different in IL...

I had Humana and dropped it as there was a co-pay everytime you went to the Dr. or practically anything. It's rated near the bottom of most Dr's insurance lists. I have Mutual of Omaha now and it's great.

They are going to be comparable to BCBS from a customer service standpoint. In terms of what will be covered and costs, it doesn't really matter who the carrier is, those decisions are made by the employer.

My employer recently switched from Humana to BCBS. I actually like Humana better but they were trying to keep costs down. Health Insurance is so expensive.

I'm an insurance agent in AZ. Insurance rates and coverages are different by state so you can't really ask others to compare. You should have the policy coverage page from BCBS and can compare it to the new policy with Humana. As far as asking if its a "good thing for us", yes, anyone who can qualify and pay for insurance in this economy I would consider a "good thing". Many people don't have any insurance at all, either because they don't qualify or can't afford it or both. Good luck.

My girls have had it for about a year now. We haven't had any problems. It is pretty expensive for us (we pay 100% for it) but at the time they were the last company to write child only policies (which they no longer do).
