I'm not good with ideas, but have you checked out Angel Food Ministries if you are having a hard time with the food budget? The food is good quality and you don't have to qualify. The meat is a great deal. http://www.angelfoodministries.com/

Let us know what area you live in. If you're anywhere near Decatur, Your Dekalb Farmers Market is FANTASTIC for produce, meat, seafood, cheese and natural foods. They have incredible prices and it's a really interesting place to go as well. Everyone who works there is from some far-off and intriguing place. It's a great international experience for kids and adults. There are also a number of intown co-ops where community members go in on orders to organic farmers and meat producers and not only get healthy, organic food, but the cost is much less than buying at a grocery. You put in your order once or twice a season and pay a flat fee, then either have it delivered to your door or go to someone's house and pick it up. Again, let us know where you are, so people will know if their ideas will help.

It boils down to your personal comfort level when shopping in multi-culture supermarkets but, try the Farmers Markets. There are several that I frequent in the Metro area.
1) Buford Hwy Farmers Mkt @ I285 & Buford Hwy
2) Gwinnett Int'l Farmers Mkt @ I85 & Steve Reynolds
3) Jonesboro off Tara Blvd
4) Dekalb Farmers Mkt @ I 285 & Ponce de Leon
