Advice on Skin Cancer
I am planning on calling the Dermatologist tomorrow morning, but am just wondering if anyone out there knows what this bump on my face might be. I have had this bump the size of an eraser head on my chin for the past three weeks now. It looked kind of like a pimple at first, but it didn't feel like one. It was just this tiny red sore that has grown in size. I've tried applying antibiotic ointment and some salacytic acid (to make it dry out), but every time I slightly bump my chin or smile to big it bleeds and bleeds and bleeds. My husband finally bought a steptic pencil to control the bleeding b/c it would bleed for hours. Anyway...I'm not sure what it is...and I have NO idea what skin cancer might look like, but...just thought I'd ask for some suggestions.
So What Happened?™
Thank you everyone for all the concern and advice! It's been a while since I posted about the mysterious 'bump' on my chin. Turned out to be a pyogenic granuloma. After the dermatologist office told me it would be three weeks before they could get me in, I decided to ask my family doctor about it, and he then referred me to a Plastic Surgeon. He told me that it would have just gotten bigger and bigger until it was removed and that it needed to be sent off for a biopsy just to be sure. Biopsy came back fine! I had my stitches removed today and am left with a nice pink rectangular shaped scar! : ) Better than the ugly bump though, at least I can cover this up with concealer!

hi S.! Firstly, you're making a good choice going to see a doctor.Even if it's not skin cancer, the bleeding is something to be concerned with. I had melanoma at 19 years old. I can still remember what it looked like. It looked like a green freckle/mole. I put it off for a few weeks and then went in just to have it removed. Low and behold it ended up being cancer. There are different types. But it might also be some kind of a cyst that would need antibiotics. Please keep us posted on the prognosis. We will be thinking of you.

Sorry, S., but without seeing the bump, there is no way of telling what it is. From the way you describe it, regarding the constant bleeding, it sounds like a hemangioma...a collection of blood vessels. It is common for them to bleed easily and excessively. Treatment will depend on the size of the bump and your skin characteristics.
There are three types of skin cancer:
basal cell - looks like a small fleshy bump
squamous cell - usually a red, scaly patch
malignant melanoma - this is a mole that has changed in size, shape or color. The edges are not symmetrical and it feels itchy, hard, lumpy, swollen, or tender to the touch. It can bleed or ooze. This is the only skin cancer that can spread inward.
By the way, I am an R.N., so don't hesitate to contact me if you have more questions.

My skin cancer started the same way. I kept waiting for it to pop, then picked it all the time. Eventually it took on the color of my skin. The doctor had to remove an inch of my face because I waited 6 months to have it seen. It could also be a sebaceous cyst. Go to the doctor ASAP : )

Do call the doctor. Could it possibly be some type of hemangioma? I had something like that on my head and it would bleed profusely when it was nicked. It got bigger and bigger. The dermatologist removed it and it has never come back. My son had one on his arm - same thing. It may be something that is easy to take care of like that, but I would definitely call a dermatologist!

Hi S.,
My advice, go to the doctor--the physician will have to see it. My husband is a new dermatologist in the NWA area. He is currently working out of Dr. Whorton's Springdale clinic until his office is open. Good luck and I hope it is nothing serious.
Regards,
C.

I cannot tell you what you have, but i can inform you about the healing properties of Red Clover. The native Americans used it internally as a tea for cancers and for general needs of cleaning the blood and it can also be simmered in an oil to be applied to the skin. My dad had a spot on his face that he was worried about and I made him the oil. It cleared it up. Dont know if that helps, but I do know many other things about detoxifying and supporting the body in addition to knowing how to extract in oil. ____@____.com is my email if you have any other specific questions.

In the past I have had a place that started out like a pimple on my arm. I opened the head and the problems began. It got sore, bigger and ozed with bloody yellow stuff. I went to the doctor and it was a staff infection. So get it checked out soon!

You are so smart to get to a dermatologist! He/she will be able to diagnose and treat you properly.
However concerned any of us might be, no one else can give you good advice. Let us know what your dermatologist says.
I've had pre-cancerous lesions removed from my face, and am diligent about getting to his office if a spot looks or feels different. My brother died of melanoma, (started on his scalp) so I'm a bit pushy if I see anything out of the ordinary on someone.
