I ordered a pair of sneakers (fashion, not athletic) for my 8 year old daughter. She loves them, but the top part of the heel rubs and hurts her ankle. I suggested doubling up on socks and only wearing them around the house for a while to break them in. Does anyone else have any ideas on how to soften this part of the shoe, or if there in a insert or something that we could use?

Thanks!

What can I do next?

I use to sell and import shoes. If they are causing any discomfort stop wearing them!!! You will destroy her feet and she will later develop all kinds of feet problems : bunions, Corns, Calauses, etc.

They sell Gel Inserts for just the heel part. It will raise the foot up a bit and may help.

I would put a small (cut to size) piece of duct tape on the surface of her socks, where the shoe rubs. You could also try vaseline on the duct tape (maybe even duct tape on the inside of her shoe. This is a hiker's tip.

I don't know the material they are made from, but something I have tried in the past is to bend/press the seam forward to try and soften it (usually there is a seam there that causes the back to be really stiff). If the problem is not the stiffness causing them to rub on her ankle, it is probably a seam that runs around the entire top edge (like cloth sneakers sometimes have)... I don't know anything for that, except maybe let her wear a band-aid under her sock to prevent it from rubbing her there.

ALWAYS TRY ON SHOES BEFORE BUYING. IF ORDERED TRY THEM ON OF THEY DON'T FIT RETURN THEM.
i CAN'T FIND SHOES THAT FIT 4 OPERATIONS ON MY FEET, 7 TOES CUT OFF AND i WALK ON THE OUTTER SIDE OF MY FEET I CAN ONLY WEAR FLATS WITH A BACK STRAP. I CAN'T RETURN SHOES BECAUSE DIFFERENT ONES WON'T FIT EITHER. KEEP THE SHOES, SPOIL THE CHILD AND WRECK HER FEET FOR LIFE
GET RID OF THE SHOES!

i used to sell childrens shoes. your best bet is to go buy your little girl a different pair of shoes because nothing will fix the fact that the shoe is made badly and just wont owrk for your child. i always told my customers that you should never buy a pair of shoes over the internet or before trying them on because you never know what they will do to a foot. and also because then you are stuck with them and another bill of buying more shoes. you may be able to try gwetting it wet with water and moving it around to soften up the material but more than likely it wont do anything.
