Adult ADD Experiences with Concerta

I've always taken Adderall. I doubt that helps you, much.

BUT, my rule of thumb, with prescription medication is... If it hasn't been on the market for at least 10 years, don't take it.

So many new med's are recalled by the FDA after they approved them saying they were safe. Then you start seeing all of the lawsuit commercials on TV where the med caused horrible, life threatening, side effects.

Food for thought of course.

Hi, Lucky2BEEaMOM, It's different with every person. My daughter takes Concert and it work great for her (she's 27 years old). It didn't work for me - got me too hyper. My understanding is that we just have to try something and see what happens. That's how my doctor did it - and she is a psycho-neuro-endocrinologist.

Personally, I cannot take any ritaline family meds (concerta is methylphenidate), because they make me sick to my stomach whenever I get happy, and actively throwing up if I get excited. Ugh. Ick. No thanks!!

Does that happen to most? Nope. Just some. The same way that Adderall triggers "adderage" is some, but others are totally chill on it.

Since lisdexamphetamine worked GREAT for you, but made your heartrate go sky high, I'd try other amphetamine based meds first... To see if you just respond badly to the lisdexamphetamine, or if it's amphetamines in general that do a number on your heart. Adderall is a blend of short and long acting amphetamines, including dexamphetamine but NOT lisdex. Similarly, there's straight dexamphetamine options available as well.

Some people are ruled put of whole families of meds, others just need a slight chemical tweak within a family to find 'perfect'.
