My daughter got her adenoids out too - saying it would miraculously make her snoring go away and change her voice LOL What a crock! Looks like Pediatrics is all about the money too! They even said her adenoids were very swollen and infected. If I had done my Nursing school BEFORE this happened, I would have known what a bunch of BS they were feeding me... alas, I didn't start Nursing school until a year later.

Now I know the adenoids and tonsils are the first line of defense against invading bacteria and viruses, and that is why they tend to be swollen.

Your son likely has a dairy allergy. Try removing it from his diet and see if his symptoms get better. Feel free to research this topic yourself or ask a holistic medical practicioner.

It has only been a month, he might need a little more time to heal. Or, he may have seasonal allergies. When does he go in for his post-operative check-up? When you take him in, ask the doctor about allergies. My son took Flonase for awhile for similar symtoms.

I can't remember how long it took my son to heal from his adenoid/tonsilectomy, but I do know he wasn't perfectly healed for awhile. However, his snoring did cease and his breathing improved tremendously. So that leads me to believe that maybe your son has allergies. I would ask at his next check-up!

Please don't regret the surgery. You definately wouldn't want your son to suffer from long-term consequences of sleep apnea, if he experienced that along with his breathing difficulties. It should get better!

My son had his adenoids out in Dec (he was 18 months at the time) and the Pediatric ENT said that it takes 3 months for the swelling to fully go away from the surgery. For us, at 3 months we all of a sudden got improvement! Definitely ask your doc but it may just be too soon. Good luck!

I urge you to call the doctor and ask about this. Does he also still have a sore throat? If so he may have an infection.

He may also have allergies and his symptoms may be unrelated to his tonsils and adnoids.

I'd take him back in for a checkup, but I remember the recovery period is 3-4 weeks, so it may just be healing/swollen from the surgery, or maybe he got a cold afterwards. At any rate, I believe they make kids breathe-right strips which might help in the meantime.

With the tonsils and adenoids out it's probably better than it was before but the sinuses can still stuff up. There should be a check up to see how he's healing. Ask the Dr if you can use a neti pot and rinse his nose out with slightly warm saline. It can rinse out dust/pollen and soothe nasal passages.
Treat it like you would a cold - humidifier at night, warm steamy baths/showers, etc.
Additional:
My son had his tonsils/adenoids out when he just turned 4. His tonsils were so large they almost touched each other across the back of his throat. They were becoming a serious obstruction interfering with swallowing, breathing and sleeping. His were not infected. He had no fever or signs of illness - just honking huge fleshy marbles at the back of his mouth. Having them out helped him so much it was amazing!
He could sleep without snoring/apnea and he wasn't tired all the time anymore. Being able to rest, eat and drink properly helped him grow 4 inches in height that year. We were very happy with the results and only wish we could have done it sooner. We have no regrets.
