My 7-year-old is going as Cerberus, the 3-headed dog from Greek mythology. He's obsessed with the Rick Riordan/Percy Jackson books -- that's where this came from.

We've got 3 werewolf masks, and I'm going to stuff 2 of them with ... something ... and attach them to the shoulders of his gray fleece jacket with mini safety pins.

My special needs daughter still 'trick or treats' and will be going as an angel, wings and all, because that is what she truly is ALL year!!

I however, will go as myself...a witch! The difference IS I will wear a hat, paint my face green, and NOT pluck the hairs on my 'wart' from now til halloween!

Best!

My kids are too old at this point, but my favorite memory was the time our youngest wanted to be an ice-cream cone. We sewed the cone together and spent a long time picking out the right "flavor" construction board for the scoop. Then at the last minute she decided she really wanted to wear her sister's old cat costume as well, so we have pictures of a blueberry ice cream cone with whiskers and a tail.

My 5 year old daughter is going to be a Ninja. It's funny, actually. Almost all of her clothes are purple, and she has never, ever, worn black. She insisted on a black costume so that she could be "more stealth." She said,"you can't be a ninja wearing purple or another color mommy, people will see you! And no one is suppose to see a Ninja!"

My son is going to be Heatwave, a rescue bot. I think he would rather be spiderman, but the Heatwave costume is purchased, so that be that.

A couple years ago, my hubby was "Billy Bob the singing bass" - my fantastic sewing sister made a hood that was a fish's body, and the face was hubby's face (LOL_OMG). He won the company costume party.

So this year, my son is dressing up as one of the Wild Kratt brothers, and I am going to be a fish, wearing that goofy 2 foot long fish hood, and a blue shower curtain over my body as the water. :)

My 3 are The Lone Ranger (the modern version), Jack Frost from Rise of the Guardians and Princess Aurora from Sleeping Beauty.
I'm "R2-D2 goes to Tea". I have an adorable R2-D2 "costume" mini-dress that I accessorized. My husband threw together Indiana Jones. :)

So my 7 year old son, wanted to be a Zombie.
But when we went to the store, and he saw all those costumes, he got scared. He said "Mommy its too scary!"
So now, he is a Ninja!

My daughter, a middle schooler, is still deciding.

My daughter loves Monster High so she is going as Frankiestein. I have to get makeup to make her face look grey like Frankie's and practice making stitches on her face. It will be fun. The first 2 years of taking her trick or treating I wore a witches hat. Halloween here is usually very windy so I spent a great deal of time chasing my hat down the street. Now I just go as me and leave the hat a home.

Kiddo is into zombies... please don't ask me why, not quite sure. He was totally into mummies this summer. He's made a 'zombie costume' out of an old green hoodie of mine, turned around backward so the hood covers his face; he instructed me to cut eye and mouth holes in it; have already chopped the sleeves short. This is his 'costume'. I may buy some gauze or cheesecloth to sew on haphazardly to give it a little more of a ragged look.

One of the neighbors passed down a ninja costume to us, so it might turn into Zombie Ninja---- we shall see!

@Canuck: my son has been calling it the "Grim Reeker" instead (totally by mistake)... just had to laugh when I saw your post. :)

My son is going to be the green ninja from Ninjago (Lloyd) because that's what he's really into this year. My daughter is going to be the red ninja from Ninjago (Kai) because she wants to be the same as her brother but he said she couldn't be green - any other color was ok (and, since there's no pink, she chose red).

My kids have chosen the Grim Reaper and the ghost from Scream. I buy Halloween costumes at the Thrift Store and at after Halloween sales and keep them in Rubbermaid containers. Early in October my kids go through the boxes and pick their costumes from what we have. They used to wear two different costumes, one for indoor parties, and a warmer plush costume for trick-or-treating, but they have outgrown the plush costumes. The robes for these costumes should be big enough to wear their winter jackets underneath, or else they will have to be Grim Reaper and Scream in a parka for trick-or-treat. I will probably wear some scrubs, a lab coat and a surgical mask.

My youngest daughter loves TMNT and I found a site that sells a TMNT costume with a skirt. It was crazy expensive so my mom is making her one. She is so excited!

My oldest picked out a senorita. She loves long dresses is the story behind that. (All her friends are being zombie, brides, prom queens. etc but she wants to be something pretty. I love her)

My 9 year old son will be a yellow minion and my 6 year old daughter will be a purple minion. No real story behind it other than they are obsessed with minions. I'm making both of their costumes. Almost done except for the goggles.

My daughter is going as Katara, a water bender in the Avatar cartoons. She is 6 and "beyond princesses" (her words not mine!). In the last year she has really sought out strong female characters. My mom is making her costume.

My son is being his own version of Super Boy. My mom is making him a cape and we even designed his own super symbol to put on the back.

My mom also made costumes for my niece and nephew. My nephew is a zebra and the costume makes him look exactly like the stuffed zebra he has carried around since he was a baby. My niece is going to be a manatee. My mom blew that costume out of the water!! It is unbelievably cute!
