For the last 3-4 days I have noticed holes in my backyard about 2-3 inches deep. There's no tunneling or dirt built up around the holes like a mole might do. It appears to be a larger critter but I don't know what. A possum? Has anyone heard of this or has had it? It's tearing up the grass/backyard! HELP!
Thanks for the advice on my "critter". I researched armadillos and, yes, it appears to be one. We'll start by treating the grass for grubs, etc... and take away the food source. Hopefully it will leave. Otherwise research indicates you have to try and trap it. That could be really hilarious! I can picture myself sitting in my yard at 2 a.m. waiting for an armadillo and then chasing the thing around the yard like a mad woman :) Thanks for the advice.
If you're living in the Aubrey area, it's a very good chance that it is Armadillos. We have a huge problem with Armadillos up here in the Paloma Creek subdivision on 380. (Paloma Creek is zoned as Aubrey)
Armadillo looking for grub worms. Yes, they do tear up the grass. My husband treats the yard for bugs and such. Take the food source away from the animal and the animal will look elsewhere.
Maybe an Armadillo? We have one that digs up our flower beds every night.
Sounds like an armadillo to me.
It could also be a rabbit nest. When the mother rabbit has her babies, she will make a nest approx. 2-4 inches deep to keep her babies in. She will usually line the nest with some of her own fur and some leaves or torn up grass. We have had these nests in our yard almost every year for the past several years.
Sounds like Gophers--I'm in Tioga and the get pretty bad this time of year in our area
