9 Weeks Pregnant and Had Blurred Vision
I'm 9 weeks pregnant and I had an episode yesterday were my vision went blurry, I lied down and put my feet up. I took a short nap and when I woke up my vision was better but I had a small head ache and chills that later went away. I called the OB nurse and she said it was fine. Is this normal??

Hello A.
I am hypnoBirthing practitioner. We recommend that you have to see your Doc for ongoing head ache, dizziness, spotty or blurred vision. It is important. Do'nt panick but see your doctor or atleast talk to her asap.

I am pretty sure it is common for people's vision to change during pregnancy. Off and on, my vision was affected (blurry at different points in the day) during my pregnancy. I remember talking with friends and they said eye doctors don't recommend getting any new prescriptions because your vision is being affected by your pregnancy (just as your teeth/gums become more sensitive). I don't know if it's related, but ever since I've given birth, my vision has not been blurry; however, I am having a difficult time wearing my contacts again (dry, itchy, etc.). I have heard of this happening to some people...
Best wishes on your pregnancy!

This was completely normal for me. I had my prescription change during my first pregnancy. I would get blurred vision, headaches, dizziness, and lots of vertigo all of which made me very nauseous. I actually fell walking down the sidewalk and ended up in the hospital with a concussion. My doctor said that each symptom was my bodies way of trying to communicate with me. I was not getting enough water in my system and trying to do too much. I started drinking more water and tried resting more and this really helped. When I was in the hospital they also discovered my potassium level was dangerously low. I would talk to your doctor about your daily routine and make sure your in take is enough for your lifestyle. Communication is key, with your doctor and your body. Good luck and God bless.

I know that's got to be scary, but remember - one of the first symptoms women used to have to go by was fainting (back before the handy dandy pee-on-a-stick). So I'd guess it's a pretty normal issue. I think it has to do with re-routing blood supply and your blood sugar being a little wonky.

It sounds like you had a migraine...which is common during your first trimester. I am pregnant with my 3rd child and each pregnancy had about 3 migraines during the first trimesters. The best thing for you to do is to lay down, turn off the lights and even put something over your eyes so it is completely dark and take some tylenol. If you do that right away, the migraine does not seem to go into a full blown on one. Also, it helped me to be aware of what triggers them. For example, I was very cautious to eat sweets or cheese on an empty stomach. Hope this helps and just remember, once you hit 13 weeks, the migraines should not reoccur.

You may want to get a glucose test early. There is a such thing as pregnancy induced diabetes that can affect vision. Just an idea.

Hi, A. - I have heard of women having vision problems during pregnancy. If the OB nurse said not to worry, I'm sure all is well. Good luck. N.

I think it's pretty normal. Pregnancy can be tough sometimes. It could be the pregnancy or you may have caught a little bug. I think 9 weeks would be too early to have pregnancy induced hypertension, but being someone who had preeclampsia with both of my pregnancies I might want a to check bloodpressure. You can you to Giant or CVS and check it there if you don't have a monitor at home. Hope this helps:0)
