Hi Moms,
My son has been complaining about stomach aches for over a week now. Sometimes, it's after he has eaten and sometimes it's just out of the blue. Tonight he keep complaining and then when he went to the restroom his poop with the craziest green color I have ever seen. I know it isnt from green foods or drinks. It's something else. I read online that it was that it passed thru his large intestine to quickly and didnt allow bile transfer or something to the nature. I am going to call his pediatrician in the morning, but I'm just wondering if any other mothers have experienced this......
Thanks!

What can I do next?

is it his stomach or more over to the upper right? because that is where his gallbladder is and as you might know, bile is green..and it makes me wonder if the problem is more gallbladder/liver related than it is stomach problems. although, when your gallbladder hurts, it can cause a stomach ache as well.. have you noticed where on his tummy it hurts? when my son's stomach hurts, I have him point to which part .. if the upper part and he just ache, I know that that might be attributed to something he recently ate, vs the lower half which is usually something older.. by figuring out, what part of the tummy, this helps me to discover if he shouldn't or should have certain foods..

best of luck

Lots of foods turn pooh crazy colors. One time I totally freaked out over rainbow pooh. The mom laughed at me and said he had been munching on Tutti-Fruti's on the way to child care that morning. Grape juice turns pooh lime green too as dose Licorice. I still would talk to the doc about it though.

Stomach aches for a solid week, clearly not just related to food, and the doctor hasn't been called yet?

My daughter had aches for one day and it was appendicitis. Emergency room, operation, the whole deal.

The green could indeed be bile. I'm surprised everyone's saying "It's normal, it's nothing." Combined with the pain, it could be his appendix or a bowel issue. I'd phone the doctor now and ask if you should go to the ER. If the doctor wants you to come in "tomorrow" to the office instead, I'd insist that you come in ASAP today, not tomorrow. Yeah, it could be nothing, or it could be dangerous. We're not doctors on Mamapedia!

Sounds like lactose intolerance. It can make poop really green or even blue.

it doesn't have to be green food/drinks....it can anything with food dye! Buttercream & whipped frosting for bakery goods are notorious for this....as is popsicles, some juice/fruit ade drinks, gatorade, & lots of other foods/drinks. Stomach bugs will do it, too.

Try some yogurt to change the flora/fauna in his belly. Eliminate dairy for the next couple of days....along with most sugared foods. He should clear up then. & don't forget the BRAT diet: bananas, rice, applesause, & toast!

It sounds like a bit of liver bile. I've gotten a bug before where I puke it & boy oh boy is it green. LOL! Sounds like it just passed out a different way with him. I'm sure he's fine. Just a tummy bug. :)

My oldest will have really green poop after eating a lot of purple/blue foods like blueberries or grape juice.

Green poop? Gas. Is he really gassy? My middle daughter is very, very lactose intolerant and has never, ever had green poop. Only my other two daughters who are not lactose intolerant have ever had green poop and it's been when they've been really gassy. Any other baby child I've known to have green poop has had it coincide with being really gassy. Lactose intolerance doesn't suddenly occur... there would have been many other signs and symptoms over the past few years.

I wouldn't automatically go to worst case scenario but I would definitely see how concerned the pediatrician gets and ask him if he can recommend a Pediatric Gastroenterologist since it seems not to have occurred before and it was sudden onset.

It's usually pretty normal, AND there's a stomach flu going around, HOWEVER when I took my 'thought-it-was-the-stomach-flu' kiddo in last week (had also had green poops, but I hadn't really thought anything of it... since they're usually food related) it turned out to be a burst appendix.

It's probably nothing. Keep the doctor's appt.
