8 Month Old with Reoccurring Cold

My 8 month old started daycare a couple of months ago. He got his first cold from one of the other children 2 week ago. Just when we thought he was getting over it, he's sick again. We took him to the doctor yesterday because he has a terrible cough and is severly congested. The doctor said that he's gotten another cold just when we were at the tail end of the first one. He's already had a flu shot. My husband and I both had flu shots too in order to keep it out of the house. Of course, our weather is helping matters. He seems so miserable. How can I protect him from this? Are their vitamins that I can give him to keep him healthy.

What can I do next?

Adaptogens are a natural way to help boost the immune system. To learn more and watch "The Story of Adaptogens Documentary" 10 minute video, go to VitalHealth.TunguskaMist.com

The Immune Tunguska Mist formula contains the following adaptogens to support a healthy immune system: Amla, Astragalus, Holy Basil, Eleuthero, Licorice, Reishi, Rhodiola, and Schizandra. We've ordered 1-8 products at a time from this website and usually receive it in 2-3 days.

I also highly recommend an incredible book titled Adaptogens: Herbs for Strength, Stamina, and Stress Relief by Winston and Maimes. From the book "There is a category of herbs called adaptogens that help the human body adapt to stress, support normal metabolic processes, and restore balance. They increase the body's resistance to physical, biological, emotional, and environmental stressors and promote normal physiologic function".

I hope your son starts feeling better soon:) God Bless!

My 4 year old started prescool in Sept. and my 16 month old has been sick ever since because of the germs my son brings home. Until his immune system is stronger, he will catch colds often. All kids go through this the first time they are around other children. Also, I would never give a child vitamins or suppliments of any kind without the ok from his pedi.

Unfortunately there is nothing you can do. He's going to have to get through it on his own. It's his own little body getting adjusted to everything being thrown at him. Good thing though, after it gets worse first of course, is that his lil body will eventually become immune (for the most part) to the sick babies and it won't hit him as hard. I don't believe in giving medication unless absolutely necessary. I'm that way though because my mom was a total medicine giver. For EVERYTHING!! So much so that the medication sometimes didn't even work! So now with my kids I just let it run it's course unless it's like and ear infection or something horrible like that. I usually get them in the shower at night and while they're nice and warm still in the bathroom I apply VICKS VAPORRUB to their chest and soles of the feet then their socks. That helps alot! I also have my baby drink chamomile tea mixed with his formula. There's also a tea called Sleepytime I get it at Walmart. It helps my baby boy sleep through the night on nights when he's sick. Good luck!

There's really nothing you can do. This is just how his iummune system gets developed -- he has to be exposed to things for his body to learn how to fight them off. It's not just the fact that he's at daycare either. It may be partly due to his ability to explore his world a little more. Once babies start crawling and moving around, they're all over floors and furniture and other kids, and putting everything under the sun in their mouths...which exposes them to a lot more stuff than when they just sat snugly in a bouncer and watched the world go by.
