So What Happened?™

Thank you all for responding. I started to give him some water before feeding, and I'm going to buy a humidifier tonight.
I hope this is going to work. Thank you again

You could try putting a couple drops of saline up his nose before he eats. The saline will slide down the back of his throat and soothe it. Also, run a humidifier at night to help him breathe. And, it sounds weird, but works, put some baby vicks on the soles of his feet then put on socks or feety pj's. Hope he feels better soon!

The most likely reason is that any milk based product increases the thickness of your phlegm which would cause the coughing which naturally leads to vomiting if it is too severe. Try using a steam vaporizer to help thin out the secretions and see if you can get your little guy to drink more water to also help thin the secretions. You can't really give a baby any kind of OTC medications. I know that milk/breast milk/formula is the staple of a 7.5 month old's diet, but try alternating small amounts of milk with some water to see if that helps. If nothing works, give your doctor a call and see what they suggest.

How long has he been doing this? My 18 month old was doing the same thing. He had no fever just a cough that would make him vomit, and some diarrhea, coem to find out he has pneumonia, so I would definetly bring it up to your pedi. Also, maybe he needs a swallow study?

My son was totally like that until almost 18 months. It was mostly when he put too much food in his mouth at once. The pediatrician said he had/has a sensitive gag reflex. The thing is, the more it happens, the more irritated his throat would get and the more likely it would happen again. We would just clean it up, feed him again if he wanted it and wait it out. It was happening about once a week for a while. What finally made it stop was getting sick. He had an infection and was on yucky antibiotics. It was liquid with a dropper. He had to have it twice a day for 10 days and it took my husband and myself to get it in him. We just did it right over the sink. He tossed it about once a day...so much that we ended up having to get another prescription...because we had to redose it until he took it. After that, much, much less often...only once in about 6 months. I think he learned to swallow when he gets that feeling instead of vomiting. Maybe after this cold is over, he'll be fine. I would ask your doctor if they have any suggestions...I'm sure they've seen this before.

sounds like the mucus is irritating his stomach. suction his nose frequently. you can try giving him some water before he eats, also vicks on the soles of his feet when he sleeps. somehow this lessens coughs. and of course, if he's hungry, feed him again. :) hope he feels better soon.
